Default Went turkey hunting last night.

I didn't get a bird, but what a great evening to be out. As, I was walking through the woods to get to my spot when on the trail in front of me I see a raccoon. He runs up a tree and I noticed it didn't have a tail.

So, I continue on along the path to the back of the property when I notice there is poison oak everywhere. I get poison oak pretty bad so I was watching what I rubbed up against when not 2 feet in front of me is a little yellow chick with black spots on its back. Then I notice a couple more so I freeze. 5 feet away a hen comes out from behind a tree so, I slowly scan for any more turkeys in the area. None. I watch her for about 5 minutes as she rounds up her chicks and hurries off.

I finally get setup and play the waiting game. The property I have permission to hunt is not huge so there is no run and gun. I give a few calls about every half hour with no response. Finally, a little after 8 I decide to walk to the back of the property again and glass the clear cut. No turkeys but I did get to watch 2 deer for a few minutes as they skirted the edge and disappeared into some timber.

As I left I noticed the racoon was still in the tree waiting for the safety of darkness to come down. After I got back to the truck and drove about a mile down the hill I found the turkeys. There were a handleful of hens and one big tom about 20 yards off the road on land I do not have permission to hunt. I stopped and watched them for a few minutes then continued home.

A bird would have been great but even though I didn't bag one the evening was very enjoyable and there is always next time.

Happy hunting.

I got home from work last night showered, dressed, and when I walked into my kitchen something drew me to the cabinet above the fridge...i crept over and slowly swung open the door and there sitting in my cabinet was a well aged Wild Turkey of Kentuckian decent. A rare breed at that! That turkey put up one helluva fight because this morning my girlfriend had to remind me what hit me!
