Blow-in Insulation.......
Does any one have recomendations for a contractor to blow insulation into my attic for me? Anything to watch out for, or ask for? I sure wish my knees would allow me to get up there and do this, but there's no way I could get to the edges of the attic to baffle the eve vents, and get out again. My place is 1100 sq feet. I'm in NE just south of the airport a few miles.
Thanks for any input guys/gals.

Re: Blow-in Insulation.......
rent the blower from home depot and pay the neighbor kid to do it, i think they give it to you for free if you buy enough insulation?

Just make sure you don't block your soffit vents. If you do your roof will rot because of humidity build-up.

Re: Blow-in Insulation.......
Well, my knees won't allow me to get up there. The vents are my concern, the roof has a shallow pitch to it so getting in to baffle the vents is OUT for me.
I wonder if one of the kids that comes to buy drugs from the guy across the street would like to make a few bucks, hmmmm....Probably Not.
I got one ball park bid from a company for $400.00+/-. It will cost extra if there are not shields of some kind over the three ceiling fan boxes that are code, and I don't know if I have those or not. Does that figure sound fair? For R-30?
For the wear and tear on my bod, and how much cooler in summer and warmer in winter we'll be, I thought that sounded fair for the most part, considering what it costs to have ANYTHING done anymore.

Re: Blow-in Insulation.......
Just did mine in December, went with PAC insulation in Hillsboro. For a 1200sqft home cost me around $650.00 only $100 difference than doing it myself.
Then I got a $330 rebate form the Energy Trust of Oregon for the insulation upgrade.

Just follow the links for existing homes and look for the list of things offering rebates.

Bob Boryska at PAC Insulation is the guy to talk to. I second the recommendation of fishonksm.

yes this is very important. you can buy what the call baffles i believe that amount to being channels for the air to vent. the ones i have used were made of styrofoam and you just staple the fins to the underside of the roof. they are kinda shaped like this -\____/- imagine the plywood being on top of this pic. oh heck here is a better picture of one.

This is great, just what I needed. The place I called isn't on their list of contractors, but I'll also give a call to PAC and see what they want, and maybe a third company too.
Thanks for the info guys!

Re: Blow-in Insulation.......
Try Knez Building Materials and tell them Derek sent you (although I'm not sure if that will help).
The other player I know of is JB insulation. All the installers want your business. Don't be afraid to call around and get the lowest bid. Then bring the lowest bid to the other companies...prices aren't set in stone.
