Default More fishfinder help?

Weird one today, at least I thought. Put lead down on downrigger on the transducer side. Thought I was in well over 60 ft of water but depthfinder said 20. Got worried because that was what I had the downrigger at. Long story short, depthfinder was reading ball on downrigger as bottom depth. Is that weird?

It is an 8lb ball. I am going to take a look through the manual this evening. I was surprised that the finder was reading the ball as the depth. I really expected to see the ball, and even the cable, on the screen.

It is set on feet. Why would that matter? I just spent an hour in the boat with the manual and the fishfinder. I, for the life of me, cannot figure out why it read that way yesterday. Like I said before, I expected (even hoped) to see the cable from the rigger and the ball on the screen.

Not to jack your thread but I have had a similar problem. Mine doesnt read as the bottom but shows a steady line of fish symbols at the ball depth. Its picking up the ball as a fish and posts it on the display every time it refreshes. Any way to fix this?

Turn that silly "FISH ID" OFF. Push menu buttons untill you see Manual/auto and turn to Manaul.

Your ball should read as a solid line across the screen, black/blue if your using a color unit. If you're fishing in 60" of water you should have your unit set to the next deeper depth, not "Auto Depth". Again, turn unit to "Manual Mode", NO auto depth NO fish id.

Crank "Sensitivity" up untill the screen starts to get a bit cluttered, do not use noise filters. In some cases i will use the surface clutter filter on low, or on rare occasion medium.

Use the zoom to zero in on where you believe the fish would/should be. Say you're fishing at twenty feet, use zoom to zero in on 15'-30'.
