Default Westport or Neah Bay Halibut

Anybody fishing Westport or Neah Bay? Any reports? I haven't been out yet, but will probably hit one of these as soon as conditions are good. Hopefully next week.

Wesport (within 20 miles) doesn't hold a candle to Neah for halibut, but it is a day trip for me. Neah is a 5 hour road trip from Olympia, so need about 3 days to make it worth it. Should be able to at least pick up bottom fish at Westport if no flatties. Some really good bottom fishing at Neah, too especially if tides/currents are right.

Also, Port Angeles is a day trip and opens on the 9th.

If anyone is interested, can share expenses and can go on short notice during week, is not a real puker, and can enjoy just being out there (this is not a paid/guaranteed charter service), email me. I like 1 captain and 1 passenger (2 total) in the boat.

I have a 99 21' Striper with radar, FPS, VHF, everything pretty much.

Fishing regs vary by location. See http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/do/apr02/apr0902c.htm for halibut dates, quotas and which days it is open.

Ach, I have all the qualifications except the short notice during the week part! How do you get a job like that!?!

I would gladly crew any weekend day or weekday in advance to learn another area. I will be fishing Oregon May 10-11 and 17-18 on my rig.

What job

I was working for Intel and as part of downsizing, they offered a nice package to "go fishing permanently". Actually, I am getting as much fishing in as possible because the "package" is running out and darn, I need to go back to work.

Weekends will open up after the 9th (Neah is open Tuesday thru Saturday but one day is not worth all the driving to me) when the season starts in the Strait of Juan De Fuca around Port Angeles (open Thurs thru Monday). This area is also open until July 12 with no quota. Not as predictable fishing as Neah but it is a day trip.

Where are you fishing on the 10th and 11th? I am going back to the Snake on the 18th for a week. I am sure I will hit Port Angeles for a Saturday or Sunday or two when I get back. Will post here when I need a rider.

10-11 is Newport, 17-18 is going to be in Garibaldi.

If you need crew for a trip, shoot me an email at threemuch@yahoo.com or call my cell 503.756.9078.

I have a boat, so I know what it costs to run one.
