I was hoping for a bad weekend, sorry.
What are the chances of having a two good weekends in a row this time of year? Then again, what are the chances of having two bad weekends in a row? Probably about the same eh.
Hopefully it'll all blow over by next weekend, if not, you may find my foot stuck in Bozley's....well, you figure out where it'll be.

NOAA SMOAA  ,

We got out early and had a blast. There were mechanical issues and the storm started to blow it. I thought I could hear Davy Jones but it was just the wind. It only took the captain a couple of tries and a little time to get the kinks out and we were off.
With that episode behind us we decided not to go all the way to 72 square. Everyone on the radio was concerned about the weather and it was certain to change. It was getting worse the further we went. The decision by the group was to stop at blue dot and bag our Halibut then head in to fish for pointy and toothy.
It didn't take long and we had 4 buts to the boat and we were on our way in.
We were the first charter there and the first boat to head in.
The storm chased us all the way back and the captain kept looking back over his shoulder. The closer we got the shore the better it looked.
We stopped at one of his favorite bottom fishing spots and loaded up on bottom fish and lings.

Total tally for the trip, 5 Halibut, 5 Ling Cod, 2 Canary and 15 Black and Blue Sea Bass.

It really started to blow after we hit the dock with gale force winds.

While we were on our way back in a Bayliner hailed the Coast Guard with a lost prop. They were adrift and headed for the rocks. We never heard an update. I hope they made it alright.

This was my first trip to the area and it is beautiful. I love the rocky coastline.

If you go be advised that the tribe has implemented a $7 recreational use fee. Kind of a bummer on top of everything else you have to pay for but if they use the money to fix the sea wall and improve the roads maybe it will be worth it.

Anyway there's the update.

I don't blindly trust NOAA anymore. Take the time to go look for yourself but take the time to know what the trend is and what the satellite shows as far as fronts etc.

Good friends, good fishing, Great Trip.

Later,

Mr. F.

Halibut were 2 at 30 lbs, two at about 25 + I didn't wieght those and 1 about 15 that the skipper kept it swollowed all of hte gear or it would have went back. Be advised that when Ray is reeling and fighting a nice Ling do not reach over and touch his line and say (tink) I swear just as I did that the fish got off his hook and he wasn't happy it appeared to be a big one. However the way I see it it was his third or forth one as he was the ling slayer for the boat so he would have had to release it anyway. seriously he had the bottom fish nack for the day. We had a great trip overall and look forward to our trip on the inside passage with this skipper in 2004 I can't wait.

Well I got to fess up. I was a little dissapointed with the size overall, however, these are very special buts. Theye are the rare and tasty Veal-a-but! Vary rare and quite tasty.

Dan!, it's a good thing we werent crabbing It would have taken the four of us left on deck to pull the pot but the crabs would have been well fed  .

Friends, let me tell ya about a jealous buddy with an itchy "Tinky" finger....

That WAS a BIG LING! It would have been my second and it faught harder and felt heavier than the double that I followed up the folly with. When you least expect it Dan!.... when you least expect it....

"Hey, I thought I put the tip on the harpoon"... JUST EXPECT IT!

It was a great trip and I don't hold anything against Dan!. Honest, I don't mind loosing a really big ling cause of a lil horse play  . Everything is just fine  . I'll even bring him a fresh warm steaming burrito just to show that everything is just great  Gotta wait till we are about 36 miles out though
Man I'm loosing sleep and getting all guiddy.

Can't wait to get there and rip those lips....

Later,

Mr. F
