Anyone fishing out of Garibaldi May 10/11
The Newport trip sounds like fun, but we are planning on fishing out of T/B (we are staying in Nehalem). Any other ifishers going for the much bigger northern Oregon halibut? If so, maybe we can hook up before heading out. thanks, Kasey

Hawgjaw,
I'll be heading out of Garibaldi both weeks, the boat will be moored at Garibaldi Marina. I prefer Garibaldi this time of the year, because of the backup of being able to sit in the bay and troll for springers if the ocean blows-up.
I have a white 22'4" Marlin with a black and royal blue stripe -- plus a white flag on the VHF antenna. Look me up, or maybe we'll get tangled out there -- I sure hope not, but it certainly wouldn't be the first time.

I'll be there next weekend, but only if the conditions are looking mighty good. My boat is probably going to be the smallest out there, so I'm not gonna push my luck beyond 5-7@ 15 or 2-4 @ 20. Will know more by Wednesday.

Hawgjaw,
The rule when I went out of Tilly on a puker was big weights and small baits.
We fished in 900 ft. of water, and limited the boat.
I had never taken such a kidny pounding A** kicking as we did on that trip.
Bottom line: the fish were about the same size as the chicken ranch, but 300 feet deeper water.
And they ate just as good. GOOD LUCK!! And be safe!

I did Tillamook 4 times last year, and the water was only 750' deep. You needed 1000 feet of line to get to the bottom, but the water was only 750'.

Re: Anyone fishing out of Garibaldi May 10/11
Does anyone have any GPS coordinates for halibut out of Tillamook? Also, where do people fish for halibut out of Ilwaco? Last summer they did trips all summer long for halibut and caught some fish over 150lbs! We heard rumors the Ilwaco boats were actually fishing the same off shore spots off Tillamook. Anybody know what's up?

Serious fun, I have numbers at work, and I will send them to you. Good luck. If the boats out of ilwalco are fishing down here, they are breaking the law, I believe. I doubt it. LONG run for those boys, probably 50 miles. I bet they have a hole closer than that. Wish I knew. I would buy a WA license for a few extra butts and sturgies.
