Default Advice needed- connecting T8 to main battery switch

Just finished the mechanical installation of my T8 kicker (electric start/tilt/6A alt), and wanted to know the best way to connect the electrical leads to the battery selector switch. Intent is to have the kicker set up to charge the batteries should they become drained.

Current setup is single engine/2 battery/1 switch (off/1/2/all).

Thanks!

I have a yamaha T25 with electric start and tilt for a kicker. It has two heavy leads, black and red. I connected the black to the main starting battery (-) post and the red lead goes to the switch on the main (common) post.

Your switch will be marked 1, 2 and I think the third post is common.

Then there are the wires on the main control quadrant where you start, shift, tilt and throttle. This cable just plugs in but there are a few loose leads too. There I connected the purple ignition wire to the hour meter. This is so I get an accurate count of hours for maintenance purposes.

Appreciate the info. My secondary concern is that both engines have the ability to charge the batteries, and I'm trying to wrap my head around an idea for some sort of setup that would not blow the diodes in the alternators should both main and kicker be running (and providing charge) at the same time....

I set my t-8 up where both leads for it just go to 1 battery -my secondary. I have run both the t-8 and my F250 with no trouble. Now I need to put a secondary switch in that system for the t-8. Mark

Pau Hana both motors have voltage regulators on the alternators. They will regulate for themselves under most any circumstance. I can think of a few scenarios where a failure on one motor charging system would wreck the other. But they are not really worth worrying about.

They make a setup for two motors, two batteries, two switches. You could do that and have belt and suspenders.

Cool Re: Advice needed- connecting T8 to main battery switch

2 motors , 2 batteries , 2 switches is the safest way to go
As long as you shut down one motor before starting the other there should be no problem ...
You can do it with one battery but you will have no backup ...

I have mine rigged as Pilar lists above - never a problem with charging system on either motor.

Soldered in quick connect between kicker and thru-hull for easy motor removal etc...
