Pipe Jigs
Here are a few pics of a jig I made up last week the have stainless steel cable and a stainless steel cotter pin for the hook it is about 7 1/2" long and has a 9.0 treble hook. I cant wait to try it out. We were thinking about using these and inserting it into a large squid and using thread or rubber bands to hole the squid on.

Re: Pipe Jigs
I would use it just as it is!!
I have caught Ling, Hali, rock fish etc. with them. Quite possibly my favorite for the bottom.

Re: Pipe Jigs
Just cut the arms off the squid and thread them onto the hooks
The movement while jigging is very effective

Re: Pipe Jigs
pipe jigs are great for bottom fish. i stopped usinga treble hook now use a 10-12 /0 single alot less snags that way. big grubbs on the hook.

Re: Pipe Jigs
I made these up, only I used a sinle piece of brazing rod as the insert, with swivels, and a siwash. They weight exactly 24 oz (8 1/2" X 3/4") and am thinking of using them as weights off my hali spreaders.

Re: Pipe Jigs
Those look great also, I saw the other post that showed using as weight also. I guess if a person wanted you could put the single on the pipe and a single on the other end of the spreader with a gulp or hoochie and bait.

I'm not sure, but I believe you are limited to 2 hooks per line, i.e. mooching type double hook rig. I think separating the 2 (one on bait, one on pipe jig weight, off spreader) would be illegal. I was goign to use them without the hook, just as weight and possible attractant to the hook/bait off the other end of the spreader.

Re: Pipe Jigs
I dont know either but it would be worth checking because you can use multiple for other bottom fish, We will have to check into it.

Re: Pipe Jigs
They look great. I'd cut 1 hook out of the treble. I started doing that 2 years ago and they seemed to hook just as many fish and didn't snag up as much....

Re: Pipe Jigs
By looking at the regs it looks like you could use two hooks so you could have one on your pipe jig- either a single, double or treble and a bait with one hook also.

Re: Pipe Jigs
A budy used one at the bannana last friday and said it had the mojo (3 to 1) over bait. Butt don't they have to be single point hooks on halibutt?
