Default transducer placement

I'm installing a gps/sonar unit on my boat. The sonar transducer cable is too short to put on the free side and its looking like I have to install it on the same side as the kicker. It will be about a foot from the kicker prop. Do you think this will create a problem?

Degner,

Mine is also mounted on the same side as the kicker. No problem w/ clearance, just the prop wash (sometimes) interferes w/ sonar readings in a hard reverse. Not too big a deal.

Yes your going to have problems being to close to your kicker. The prop.wash will affect the transduer signal

You may be able to get an extension cable for your unit so you can mount the tranducer where you want.

Suggest you call your mfg to see if one's available.

I was considering an extension cable but thought that to may cause a significant degrade in the signal.

Most of the upper line units will offer an extension cable as suggested above. Go that route before you install it by the kicker. It will be worth the extra bucks.
