Default Killer Deal on Survival Suits - FYI

I just found a great deal on commercial survival dry suits. They come off of commercial ships and have not been used. Anyone going off shore should consider survival suits for everyone on your boat, (at least those you wish to see again!)
My step-brother aquired 20 of these suits and is selling them for $90. per suit, about 1/5 of what they cost. I already had 2 and bought 4 more. If you are interested, email me and I will give you his email address and you can contact him directly. It is a heck of a buy if you are in the market for some.

It is important to know what kind of condition these suits are in. A survival suit with any sort of holes or cracks in it isn't going to do a whole lot of good if your in the water for a long time (still better than nothing though). Most commercial ships get rid of their old suits because they sit around for a few years and get cracks in their folds - probably why they are so cheap.

I know first hand (served in USCG) that the
zippers on exposure suits need periodic greasing
to prevent corrosion. Some of the ships we boarded
(most were not from this country and survival was
optional) had suits in need of repair. But if
you found some good ones, thats great! just grease those zippers and play it safe.

Those are all good points. The suits are unused, but not new. They have been salvaged off of commercial ships. They do not have holes or other problems, since they have not been used. These are not suits that are to be worn while working on the deck. These are survival suits that are only worn when you are going to abandon ship. They are large and designed to be climbed into quickly, with all your cloths and shoes on. They then are zipped up with only your face uncovered. They are bouyant and do not require a lifejacket, however, they are not a substitute for a lifejacket on your boat if you are inspected by the USCG. The zippers are unused but do need periodic maintenance with zipper wax, available at any dive shop. The wax is simply rubbed onto the zipper to aid in lubrication. Another good idea is to spray the wrist seals with silicone spray periodically as well. I have had two of these suits for the last 10 years on my boats and they are great. I have put them on and played around in the surf to see how they were and was very pleased with the protection they offered. Nothing is perfect but these are a whole lot better than nothing if you are going off shore for halibut or tuna. They are a bright orange color and will keep you alive in the water for many hours, even days. The price is a fraction of new and other than these occational opportunities, they never come on the market used. I personally have nothing to gain from their sale, I only wished to let people know of a great deal before they are all gone.
