Default Fishing from the rocks.

I'm new to the forum, so I wanted to start by saying hi to everyone.

I also have a question:
I'm thinking about getting down to the coast to do some bottom fishing this weekend (if the conditions start to look better that is). I'm wondering which jetties tend to have the best yield. I was thinking about Gearhart, because it's probably not as fished as Barview. What areas tend to produce the best yield of fish?

Nufenchafel, gotta ask, what is that a type of cheese?

The central coast is a great place to try the rockfish off the rocks. There are many waysides off Hwy. 101 and state parks too. You might have to climb over fences or down steep slopes. Use bullet head jigs in 1/2, 1, 1-1/2 and even 2 oz. with a grub in your choice of colors. Bait works too but you will catch a few crabs. You can get surf perch in rocky areas bordering sand beaches using sandshrimp or clam necks. These spots fish on any tide.

The Jetty at Barview is easy to get to and that is why it is so popular. The jetty is somewhat restricted though because the heavy tide current shuts down the fishing most of the time. Fishing is best on the slack tides at the jetty.

Any place with large rocks awash and under water will hold fish. The spots seldom visited will have nice fish that are easy to catch. If you find kelp in the water off of a rocky shore try that area for Lings, they like that setup.

There is a park just north of Depoe bay, Promontory point? This used to be one of my favorites and combines Kelp and rocks. The whole point is one big pile of rocks all the way around. On any given day you will find people down in the rocks fishing. Go check it out.

Good luck and tell us a story ...

Thanks Pilar! And yes, it is a type of cheese, although mispelled. It was a nickname I had in highschool. I don't go by it anymore, but it is never used in forums, free e-mail accounts, etc. It just makes the internet that much easier when you know no one else is using your name.
