Default Black Rockfish Boiling

Was too snotty to fish inshore halibut off PC today, but the black rockfish were boiling and jumping on pinhead anchovies in the lee of the haystack rock. It was fun to sight-cast to the boils for immediate hookups on small metal jigs.

The southwest winds and very steep chop kept me from even trying lingcod fishing. So it was a quick trip for a limit of black rockfish, back on the beach by 9:30

We ran into boiling bass once a couple year back. You are right casting to them was a blast!

Charles,
Glad to hear you made it out today, even if you didn't chase halibut. A friend introduced me to catching rockfish via a flyrod when they boil. His weapon of choice was a shad dart which really looks like basic krill. Anyway, after watching him catch a few quick limits over the past two years I went ahead and picked up a 6 wt that I'll pack on the dory this summer.

Take Care,
Dave

Seen that a few times myself, fast surface limits...gotta love it.

When they are boiling like that it is about as good as it gets, talk about fast and fun. We have a spot out of Charleston that when the conditions are right you can usually find some.

We saw them there a couple weeks ago and had a blast!
