Default Kokanee on fly gear?

Wife and I got out for a few hours Friday on a buddies boat fishing for Kokes on a local reservoir. In addition to catching her first fish ever (yay!) it was a great afternoon and we managed 1 limit of fat kokes ranging from 11" to 14".

While it was fun, I couldn't help but think they would be much more interesting on the end of a 4wt fly rod with a sinking line and no weights or hardware involved. I did catch 2 on a fly pattern I like behind a dodger, so I know they will take flies fine (not surprising). I don't think we were fishing more than about 20' deep so they should be within range of standard fly gear. I'm thinking the real question is how important a dodger or lake troll is to attract them. Oh, another reason fly gear might be worth trying is we had several come off, seemingly due to the drag of all the hardware and their tender mouths.

Anyway, seems like it would be worth the effort, just wondering if anyone has tried it.

I've caught a few Kokes at East Lake on fly rod.
I was using floating line with a little split shot and a small nympth.
Can't remember the fly i was using...?
But the fish would come up from about 15' of water to hit my fly!
I was standing up on the seat and you could watch them shoot up and strike at it! It was awesome.
I think if they are in 20' of water or less then fly gear would work.

I have also caught them using an intermediate sinking line and a leech pattern. I wasn't targeting kokanee they were just caught incidential to trout.
