Default Suttle 5/10/08

This morning my dad and I headed out to Suttle to test some of the stuff I learned in the recent Koke class. We joined a couple other boats a little after 6:00 and there we some fish jumping around. Anchored up and first cast resulted in a couple of really light taps. Second cast had a pretty good take that didn't stick. Third cast - fish on and in the box! Three casts later, I had another one in the box.

At this point I was thinking 'this is going to be easy'. I couldn't have been more wrong! Things never really seemed to heat up real good and I got another couple fish over the next hour or so. The wind came up after 8:00 some time and between then and 9:00 I put another couple in the box to finish with 6. Could have probably managed a few more but there really wasn't much going on at this point so it was back to Bend for some yardwork (with a pit stop at the Sisters Bakery for a apple fritter first!!).

I did notice Gary (Aufish101) filling his creel while most others were struggling so greater knowledge definitely seemed to help. Pretty fun morning though for my first kokanee outing.

Had a friend up there today and heard it was tough fishing, with the wind and all!

I was boat number 3 on the water with Aufish101 and Dullhook. We were out early, and the bite was OK.. My wife boated 2 right away. I was shut out and wondering why I gave her my pole for new one when I got hot. 10 real quick, including 4 in a 2-3 minute span. We ended with 12 before we left before 9:00. The wind was picking up and the wife was cold.
Pink and white 1/4 oz. Gibbs with Shrimp Salt Smelly Jelly was what we were throwing.

Fish were all fairly big with 14-15" being the biggest.

#1 Suttle tip for now. Early bite - 5:30 - 7:00, snooze you miss the bite. Don't know how the evening or afternoon bite were.

Nice talking to you again nwsoftball(Russ), it didn't get any better after you left, in fact it got rougher! bd, you should have said something. I didn't set them on fire!!!!!!! Evenings were ok, you would pick one up now and then. This morning, 5/11 was a bit on the rough side! Did I say 2' waves! Almost most took one over the bow while anchored! Gave it up at 8:00, pack up and when I left, it looked like it calmed a bit at 10:00. Did I say it was spitting snow and the sun was out too! Not a bad trip, but you have to work for the fish. Pink/White worked casting and I backed trolled an old red Nordic for some fish.

Russ, was that you standing in the bow of the Duckworth? You certainly seemed to be doing pretty well.

Aufish101 - I didn't realize who you were until we were pulling anchor and heading out. Then I saw the name on your boat.

Next time I'll be sure to say hi!
