Default Cowlitz Smelt Report Monday 2/16 8:00am

Dead!

Worst I have seen in the last 4 or 5 days I have been checking.
Not a whole lot of dipper's out there but all the ones I and others watched didn't net a single smelt.

There are definately some smelt in the river because the sea lions and gulls are there.
Fact the only smelt I saw was bagged by a gull.

Unfortunately I ran into some poor old guy and his son who said he drove all the way from Beasy Corner? approx 2 hours above Bonneville he said.

I suggested he read the post on ifish.net and figure he will from this point on.
He had tried Gearhart Gardens before I ran into him at Carnival Market.
I also went to Rocky Point and confirmed what I already knew that it was dead also.
One guy there standing in the middle of the river was bagging zilch.

Hope this is just the "calm before the storm"!

Just went up and checked it out again about 1:00pm and it was just as dead as earlier.
No one getting anything!

This time I ran into a guy from Olympia that drove all the way down for smelt.

His wife wrote down ifish.net and he might not burn up a bunch of fuel for nothing next time.

Another out-of-towner told me he had been reading in the Oregonian it was good.

I should have asked him when he read that because I know Bill Monroe reads ifish and also calls Bob's.

A week ago last weekend was good or hot but it has been pretty slow all last week.

Sore Back, give me a call when you are headed this way.
I never had the chance to meet you last year.
