Which tent to buy?
http://montanacanvas.com/walltents.cfm
Which one do you guys reccommend and why?
Anybody have a decent picture of their set-up using wood "poles" instead of a frame?....I'm talking about long, felled trees you find in the mountains etc.

Re: Which tent to buy?
Kind of tough to reply to your questions without more information. How many guys? What kind of hunting? truck camp or packing in on horses?

Re: Which tent to buy?
I know an outfitter in Joseph that uses Beckel tents, he really likes them.
I bought a Bravo 12x15 with an internal steel frame and outfitter cylinder stove last year, AWESOME TENT!!! that stove will keep you warm all night, just load it up and shut it down. Looking forward to using it on our Seneca camp trip next month, our Malheur buck hunt in Oct. and then our Eastern WA buck hunt the following week and then our whitetail hunt in the Clearwater drainage, we really plan on using it, but you better for what you pay for a good setup!

Re: Which tent to buy?
I have a Montana tent and it's a great tent, but the frame leaves a lot to be desired. BIG tent and a whimpy frame. I'm going to have to get another frame.
Have buddies that have Beckle and Bravo tents. Both are excellent tents, althought the canvas isn't as heavy as the Montana tent. Something about buying local.

Re: Which tent to buy?
Check out Bussards in Albany. This is our second canvas tent from them in the past 40 years or so. I research the heck out of it and concluded that there are a lot of good tents out there. I wanted to buy locally and have been very pleased. They are great people and will take good care of you.
I liked the five-foot concept they use. I purchased a 15X15 tent. There a lot of 5' poles and since I have a short box pickup I did not want 8'6" (?) ridge poles so I use metal sleeves and 3'6" short poles. Very easy to put up.
Nothing better than a wall tent!
Since there will be four of us this next Elk hunt, we added a five foot extension.

That keeps the pine needles and leaves from staining the tent.

Re: Which tent to buy?
We bought a 15x18 BRAVO a couple of years ago. A great tent and made in Clark County. I looked at every tent shown at the Sportsmans Show for several years and decided that BRAVO was the best. Kwik Camp was a very close second.

What ever brand you buy, you'll need a stove. IMHO the Kwikkamp stove is the best one out there. We use 2 tents end to end one with a Cylinder and the other with a Kwikkamp. The KK last longer on less wood.

Re: Which tent to buy?
My uncle in Montana has a Montana canvas tent and it is so heavy that it's a pain in the rump. Plus, you have to run lanterns during the day to see anything in it. I like my Beckel so much more. I would go with Beckel Canvas in Portland again in a heartbeat. Cylinder stoves and don't look back.

Re: Which tent to buy?
I have been happy with my tent from Canvas Cabins from Newberg I believe. Whatever tent you get make sure you get the INSIDE frame. You will be happy with that decesion. A few years back Gun Rod Bow had a great post on tents. It would be worth your while to find that post and read it.
