Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
I was not sure I would spend my money on it, but got a $100 gift card for Cabela's from work, so thought I might use that for it, since it is not something I expected. I talked to some guides at the sportsman show who swore buy them, but you never know who sponsers who, so thought I would see if I could find someone in the field who has used them.

Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
I have used one for years with good success.
My brother killed a bull on a fairly open side hill after we walked behind the decoy for 150 yards closing the distance with the bull looking down at us every few minuets.
Some advice I have is if you have time to set it up get in front of it 20 yard or so, because as soon as a bull see it he stops almost always.
Or if you are holding the decoy and the bull see it, move in to the brush, out of site and lay it down. Then just sit there and don’t call or make a sound. The bull will stand there listing for several minuets (15 or so) then he will start to look for the cow that just wandered off. Works almost every time!!
I think a decoy is a good idea if you are hunting by your self.
Good luck ET

Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
I HAD one, but after a setup, I tried to go after the elk and figured I would come back later to get it....it was gone when I returned (week later) but still....I have found tree stands and other gear in the woods (cams) I I left them alone.....guess not everyone is honest. They do work well if you get one though.....just my

Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
If you do get one, make sure you keep it dry. Mine got wet from a rain storm. It was wet when i put it in it's holder. I opened the bag a couple of day's later and whammmm. The smell hit me. There was mold all over it. It really stunk!!! Bye Bye Montana decoy...

Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
I am wanting to get one here soon. I have been in a couple of situations where I am fairly sure it would have been the ticket.
Thanks for the tip on keeping it dry. Not like it rains around here.

Re: Montana Elk Decoy?
I've had one for three years now. Last year I had a small bull walk right past me at 30 yards. He was looking at the decoy and not me. Mmmm. good steaks!
