Talking who's bagging birds???

Just trying to figure who has given up on the turkey hunting. A lot of guys are giving up due to the birds getting harder or they just do not hear a gobble from where they have heard birds in the past. This is the gobblin lull right now. Is anyone down south getting into birds (roseburg, medford area) just trying to figure out hunts for this weekend. good luck to you hard core turkey hunters.

I think I'll go give it a try on Friday. I heard this turkey hunting is fun, so I might give it a go.

The birds we heard up at Emigrant Springs State Park on Saturday were kinda off-limits.

On the plus side, my kid identified the sounds before I did; that Youth Turkey Clinic training paid off!

I'd be curious to know who's still trying as well. My roommate and I are just getting done with finals and plan on going over the mountain during the middle of next week. Are the birds still talking? How high is the snow?

My step son and better half still want to try and fill another tag. I am done with 3.

The plan is to hunt for turkeys on Friday, and maybe Saturday am and then go look for a bear.

I may head out tomorrow for a few hours. Taking the weekend off for mothers day. I'll hit it again next week and then get Bryce out a couple times too. It's not over until the 31st or all of our tags are punched.

The way the wind blew here yesterday all the birds are into Idaho. What a blow. The weather has been so off and on this spring that we are waiting for it to be on for a while. Bluebird morning last Sunday and not a peep. Go figure.

had a pretty good hunt this morning with the JOKESTER. you are right the birds are not talking that much on the roost. We heard two birds this morning over in whiteriver. the first bird has been hammered all season, all he does is shock gobble about two times and then shuts up. he either has a ton of hens or he has been messed with to much from every angle. Got on a bird that answered me right off when i sent out a series of yelps. Jokester about jumped across the road on a run to go after the bird. I told him wait lets see if it is just a one time thing. So i sent another series and he hammered again. We got everything together and went after him, he was about 3 hundred yards away. we cut the distance he gobbled on his own (good sign) we set up about 200 yards and began to work him for 45 minutes. During that time he gobbled 25 times and came within 60 yards of the jokester. the bird then gobbled going away and he answered us one more time. then the turkey god turned the gobble switch off. My suggestion to all of you guys who are still getting after it, just be patient and it will happen.

I went out last weekend and couldn't get anything to sound off in the evening or in the moring. The weekend before was great and there seemed to be birds all over. I still can't figure out what happend last weekend. Are they still there, just not talking? I'm taking this weekend off for mothers day but plan to go out the following weekend.

Its just the gobblin lull right now, remember spring was late so the birds are just starting to go to nest so the next two weeks are going to be good. Just do not hammer the birds. Remember they have heard everyone in the woods for the last month so they need to hear something that is different. If you have a wingbone or tube call try them. not a lot of people out here know how to use them so there are not a lot of people in the woods with them. Just be patient, i like hunting the last 10 days of the season just because the hens are on nest and the gobblin picks up again.

Sorry to disappoint you; it was because they were IN the state park.

But fun nonetheless; also saw a nice goat just outside of LaGrande.

BTW, thanks for the info on the banquet.
