Default Hello from Alaska

I just stumbled upon your website looking for jet boat links. The North River posts helped pass the time recently on a night that was 20 below. I read all 400 posts, very entertaining. Lots of thoughts on NR and Sport jets here in AK also. We were in OR and fished the Columbia with Joe Little this spring and caught nice springers, we also fished the Cowlitz with Chris from CML, no luck but a beautiful river.

FB-
Nice to hear from you. How do they work the fishing time thing with all that daylight? Can you fish 24/7 or is it by time of day. Never thought about it untill now but I guess the sunrise to sunset thing would not work the close to the pole. Anyway.

Stay Warm!

The fishing time only applies to certain rivers and kinds of fish mainly kings, springers in your area. You can fish from 6am till 11pm seven days a week, as soon as the ice goes out you can fish but the season ends July 13th for kings. There are no other restrictions on the time of day where we fish at our cabin on the Yentna river. There are five other streams we fish that are within a 30 min boat trip of the cabin, it's a 78 mile boat trip one way to get there. We have all five kinds of salmon with rainbows, grayling, dolly varden and pike at our door step.

I guess Alaska is Probably the last place in the U.S. a boat is not just a pleasure craft but a necessary tool for every day getting around. A guy forgets how usefull water ways are to get around in remote areas.

Garet, the Yentna river is a 20 mile boat ride down the Susitna river then you can go upstream for atleast 125 mi or so, there are lots of other rivers you can fish that dump in to this one. The only way you can reach these places are by airplane or a boat, no roads. It's a 70 mile drive to the first boat launch where you can unload and you have 500 miles of river to run in many directions.

Hey there.

Do you go up to the Skwenta and fish the Talachulitna?? I worked there in 96' for Steve Johnson helping outa-towners catch fish. I don't know if Steve and Louise are still running the place but I'd love to go back. The fishing is awesome, I had clients catching chinook on skated dry-flies, just try that in OR!!!
Brings back good memories, finishing out the season and getting a plane ride back to Merrill Field with one of dem' crazy bush pilots. Crashing in Anchorage for a few nights and checking out the scenery at Charlies and the Bush Company, gonna have to go back someday. Alaskans are a strange sort. They say half of them are running from something and the other half can't afford to leave, my kind of people.

cheers and tight lines,

Mad Mikey
