Unhappy kentucky derby

anybody watch this today. kinda sad to see the philly run so well then break both her front ankles. very sad they had to put her down. horse racing is having tough stretch with all the broken limbs in big races lately.

trust me i am not a race fan but i just caught the derby this year.

I watched it today and knew right away that the injured horse had
been put down. You don't see a horse lay still on the ground like that after running a race. These injuries are a shame.

It's a total waste, they push those horses so young they are not even finished growing yet. they need to at the very least up the age of all the races 1 year to give them a fighting chance. Think of all the injuries that you never hear about in the also ran horses? Kudos to Big Brown but a very sad story for sure! May the Filly Eight Belles Rest In Peace.

Horse racing should be banned. It is cruel that these horses are pushed until they are injured and have to be killed. Barbaro last year, kept alive so the owner could stud him. Money in the bank, but the horse suffered for almost a year before the owner made the right choice.

Thumbs down Re: kentucky derby

Ban horse racing no. New rules not to push them so hard when they are young. They start them out to yearly before their bones have matured. It bothered me to see everyone so happy and parting when a great horse suffered. Shows what kind of people are in the racing world!

We owned horses and did dressage and jumping and the usual trail riding. All our horsey friends considered horse-racing barbaric, especially since they raced 2 year olds that were super-vulnerable to broken bones. The shop talk was they shouldn't race them before 5 years old.

"Shows what kind of people are in the racing world!" Sturgeonboy, you've got that right. From our end of the horse world, we considered them about one notch above the people that particpate in other fine animal sports like dog-fighting and ****-fighting. Mint juleps, big hats and fancy clothes notwithstanding!
