Why is ifish so slow?
Because the whole world is on the river!!!!

I've never SEEN so many boats and anglers in my life!
This weekend will be busy!
Geesh! I think I saw 80 anglers lining both sides of three rivers launch on the Netuc!
Was EVERYONE fishing? YES!
Let's hear about it!
Let's not talk about Pete and my trip down the Nestuc though, OK? Let's just say we had a pretty boat ride!

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Oh well Jennie, look at it as pre-catch and release. No messy hands. No worry about goofed netting. No worry if it was a native or hatchery. Just a nice pleasant day on the river.

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
I'm fishing the Wilson tomorrow with my brother and expect a ton of boats and bankies. I don't however expect fishing to be red hot. Water levels coming down too low for that hot bite. Just want to get out and row. My wife caught her first two out of the drift boat last weekend when the levels were around 6'. Can't be much worse than the Elk river was earlier this month. I just wish Sollie Smith was easier to hold a couple of boats on the shore...

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Don't feel bad Jennie, I had a nice boat ride down the Wilson with Pete on Wednesday. I thought it was just me. At least Pete is a great guy to spend a day on the river with, even if the fish aren't biting.

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Pete is a great fisherman! The FISH were the ones that weren't very skilled!
Honestly, we couldn't buy a bite! We tried EVERYTHING, and fished hard, including when I was late. He rowed us downstream and I threw jigs in every fishy looking pocket I could find.
It's not Pete. It's the STUPID FISH!

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Fishers who frequent the Sandy are being quiet because they are all out catching fish. The three fish limit has been taken by several, sometimes in a very short time. Fish rolling everywhere. More fish coming out of the Sandy than I have seen for years.
Plunkers are having a little tougher time than last week but are still getting fish. Jigs, spinners, spoons, pink worms and drift gear with or without bait are all producing. Somewhat low and clear but 8 -10 lb test and smaller presentations are wor5king. Fish spread literally everywhere.

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Ok, I'll step up to my own defense ... I have an excuse!
A) The de-icer that ODOT sprays on Highway 6 acts as a fish repellant when it splatters all over my boat on the trip across the hills.
B) The prescription in my glasses is old and I have trouble seeing the seams.
C) I prefer not to horn-in bank anglers or anchor with my boat touching other boats, so I by-pass lots of productive water.
D) I don't remember what a steelhead bite feels like, so I don't know when to set the hook. Wait, I wasn't the only one fishing, that doesn't work.
E) I have too much smoked salmon still in my freezer, so I don't really need to catch any fish.
F) The weather was too nice today to catch a fish ... and last Wednesday it was too windy.
G) I'm developing a complex ... but it's nice to have others come to my defense! Thanks guys!

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Don't get a complex Pete. I would fish with you anytime. I know we both know how to catch fish, we just don't have a good history of catching fish when we fish together. Remember that shad trip up at Bonneville? I had never heard of anyone getting skunked on a shad trip, but we did. I still had fun and I always learn something when I fish with you.

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Jennie the cowlitz is hot, lots of people ,but tons of fresh steelhead.Three of use boondogged below Blue creek yesterday & today and took limits of 8# to 10# fish by noon each day .The river is in great shape running 6040 cfs and a nice winter green color.Saw lots hooked from both sides of the bank, and think most boats had fish with lots of limits.....great time..............

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
Dear Rapid,
I read and re read the message. I can't find the part where you say, "You are welcome on my boat, anytime!" Did you forget that part?

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
I know in November everyone was expecting an awsome winter run. It certainly didn't materialize here on the East Lewis or the Washougal I am wondering did it materalize anywhere??? I have been out a dozen times hooked 2 landed 1 and one of thoes was an old summer fish.

Re: Why is ifish so slow?
I also have been fishing the east fork lately with limited success. I was there yesterday for awhile after trying my luck on the Kalama, and saw a couple of winter fish caught in the daybreak park area, but no luck for me yesterday.
I have toyed with the idea of hitting the cowlitz, but I don't care much for combat fishing. I'm also a bankie, and don't know where to do that on the cowlitz.
I have an oregon license and have been thinking about the Sandy, which seems to be getting good reports.
I will probably accept fewer fish caught in order to avoid the madhouses, ...but it's tempting.
Hey anyway, January on the east fork may be killer!
P.S.
Kalama is low and clear now too. Usually fish the canyon but tried the beginners hole yesterday. Didn't see any fish caught, but lot's of nasty ol' boots (coho and summer fish) in there and dead on the bank. Phew!
