Default Yamaha 6HP Problems

I have a 1999 Yamaha that has been used lightly over the years and up until recently it has run flawlessly. Now the only way I can keep it running is to pull the choke on it every few seconds......turn the choke on, off, on off. The motor will typically start on the first pull but after 10 seconds or so you have to pull the choke out or it will die.

As part of the annual maintenance I replaced the squeeze bulb, the plugs, and the fuel filter. No change. The gas is not old.

Any idea what could be the problem?

thx.

RM

Are you running this off of a portable gas tank or a main inboard tank? The reason I ask is that I have had a couple of motors act this way and all I had to do was open the gas cap on the portable tank and give it a little air. The gas cap vent was plugged. Hopefully it's just something simple.

It is running on a portable tank but I have tried the air valve. I am also thinking it must be the carb.

Cool Re: Yamaha 6HP Problems

Try cleaning the main jet and check the bowl for water deposits ...

Primer Bulb....I had the same problem. Make sure it is on the correct direction. It might just be a bad bulb. If not that then a carb would be my guess as well.
