Default Hatchery Coho tag

I just returned from a business trip and found a nice suprise in the mailbox today.

Last July I went salmon fishing out of Garibaldi with a friend and my girlfriend. Upon returning with our limits the fish checker announced that he was going to keep the snout off of one of my fish. I was offered a postcard to fill out that they would send back to me when they identified the fish.

I got the card back in the mail today and found out that the fish was a 3 year old silver from the Grays River Hatchery in Washington. The fish was released with 30,000 other smolt on 5/15/2002.

It's pretty cool to find out where the fish came from and where they are going. Has anyone else filled out one of these cards, and what were the results?

The first springer I ever caught had a chip in it's snout. I caught it in April a couple of years ago on SS beach on Sauvie Island. It had been released from a hatchery in Madras. It is interesting to find out where it came from and where it was headed!!

I just got a card back too.

On 8-803 I landed a hatchery chinnok out of Newport. Stick Flicker took the snout.

Heres what the card says.

Chinook

4 years old

Lyons Ferry Hatchery

Realsed on the Lower Snake River

It was one of 338,757 released.

It was released on 4/24/2001

Brood year was 1999

Pretty neat info.

From my post on the Salty Dogs:

I got checked on the dock (Warrenton) after a trip outside last July (20th) and had 2 hatchery ho's with implant tags. I filled out the cards and just got the results back this week.

Fish #1:
3 yrs old
Forks Creek Hatchery, released in Forks Creek (WA Coast)
# released 12,575
released 5/9/2000

Fish #2:
3 yrs old
Inch Creek Hatchery, released in Inch Creek River, BC
# released 414,485 (wow! )
released 5/15/2000

And I thought these were mostly CR basin fish?
