Default Hooks: Old topic, new twist

Everyone has a favorite brand of hook. So let's not mention hook names here, OK? Tell my what characteristics of a hook make it a good one.

For example, for steelhead I like a hook from size 2 to size 2/0, depending on water conditions -- smaller hooks in clearer water. I like a straight point instead of a beak because I believe it penetrates better. I like a shank about 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 the length of the gape and I will only fish a hook with an "up" eye. Same relative dimensions for a salmon hook, but I prefer it in a 5/0 or 6/0 size.

Speaking of hooks, In the latest and greatest bass pro catalog, they have a quad hook. Instead of having 3 hooks like a treble,it actually has 4.
Is this considered to be a legal hook? It might help on a steelie plug. See page 202 of master spring 2002 catalog.
