Picture Posting
So, you want to put a picture into your post on the Ifish bulletin board? Here's how to do it.
It's really pretty easy.
1. Scroll down below these instructions and click the "Browse" button to find the image you want to upload from your computer.
- The image name must be no more than 8 characters long.
- It must not have spaces in it.
2. Then fill in your name, your e-mail address and a brief description of your picture. Now click the "Upload" button and wait a few seconds.
3. When your image appears on the top of the page, scroll down a little and hit the "Upload" button a second time. (Don't add or change any information that may appear in the form windows.) When the new page loads the first image should be yours ... although you may only see "large image click to view".
4. Click on your picture or the "large image click to view". The image should open in a new window. At the top of the window will be a file name. Copy the entire file name by right mouse clicking and selecting "copy".
5. Go back to the forum page to post your message and picture. Open a new thread or reply in a current thread. While you are composing your post go to the button near the bottom of the page and click "image". Paste the address and file name into the dialog box that opens up, then click "OK".
6. Finish your message and post it ... your picture should appear in your post.
Tips on Editing pictures.
This program only accepts images that are under 100K. You may need an image editor, but it's easy and is appreciated by all who view them, whether by e mail or on a web page. Fast loading pictures are the way to go!
Make sure your filename is short, with no spaces in it. Underscores work.
If you want it to show up as a thumbnail on this page, the picture must be around 300
pixels wide.
We will store them on the server for a three month period. At the end of that time, if we need to clean it up a bit, we will get rid of the older files. At that time, you may put it back on, if you really need it there. Otherwise, post some new ones!
If you need to learn more about making your files smaller, please get a copy of paint shop pro <
http://www.paintshoppro.com>, or another free-ware photo program. The key words to look for, in your image editing program, are under image in the upper left menu.
If you compress images too much, they will become pixelated and not attractive. Try to find that place, in compression, right before it pixelates, but still looks good. Play with it! It's fun! It took me a long time and alot of disk space of saving pictures before I learned to do it. Take the pictures into your browser and preview them. That will give you a good idea how they will appear on the web. Just go to file, open, and find your picture to open it. You will have to change the menu on the bottom of the open box to "all files" as browsers default to the .html extension.
If you are scanning your pictures at home, remember, you don't need to scan pics for the web at any more than 100 dpi, as the web is only capable of viewing 72 DPI. The larger you scan a pic at, the larger it will be in both size and KB.
If you want to know how big your image is, with a PC, go to my computer, find the image, and press view details. It should tell you the aproximate size. This program does not allow images larger than 100kb.
