Thank you Farmers Insurance...
One week ago I was involved in a very serious crash on my way home from work. I wasnt paying attention and went off the road and hit a very large tree doing 50mph plus. I was suffered several injuries and was very shaken up as was my wife I spent time at OHSU and was taken very good care of from the meat wagon drivers to the docs it was as good as it could be, I was hurt and very scared and they all did everything to calm me down and they run a tight show up there. But the one thing I did not expect was for my insurance company to be so great I called the day after the accident to report the claim and it went so smooth its almost like a dream. The accident was on tuesday night and by friday my car was paid off at full high blue book value as well as my medical being handled and by Sat my wife and I were at our credit union picking out the new BIGGER suv to keep my family safer. The kia did well for the impact but I decided that even with gas prices I needed to go bigger if for no other reason than to put my mind at ease. I know for my one good story there are probly many bad ones but I just needed to put my thoughts out for someone to see as I have had a hard time dealling with this, I see myself as a fairly strong non emotional type but I have been very humbled by this expirence and have spent many hour crying over it mostly at the thoughts of my family and how close I came to not seeing them ever again, so when you leave for work tell them you love them give them hugs and enjoy every moment you have with them as you never know when it may be your last. Thanks for reading my rant. PS its good to be alive.

bent wheel from my body impacting it.

Holy-Cow Dave! Glad to hear you're OK! Luck was on your side for sure. Just curious if your car had airbags? Perfect scenario for those to pop out.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
It was cracked but just 3 large ones that go from the right corner to the left top, only one airbag deployed the drivers one, The stearing colum colapsed all the way to the turn signal and the drivers seat buckled in the center, I guess these cars are made to fold in a certian way whatever it was god was with me. Luckly the engine ended up only comming into the car a bit most of it ended up under the front end. the headlight on the hood was found 30 yards down the road.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
Glad you are all right.
Let us know how the next renewal goes though as a follow up. That is when you will know who your buddy is in the insurance business.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
Glad to hear you and family are OK. I to had a good experience with
Farmers Ins way back. But I cancelled them last year due to saving over
$800.00 dollars a year on auto and home. Hope the new company is just as good if I ever have to make a claim.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
You and the wife are most fortunate. Every day from here on is a bonus.
Do you know why the other bag did not deploy? That is a major failing, I would think.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
my company deals with farmers insurance everyday. if you took a statement over the phone then we had a part in it. we do all the recordings for them. they are generally a very good company to deal with.
glad to see you guys are ok. very suprising only one airbag went off though.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
Wow, 50mph against a tree?
The reason the passenger bag didn't go off is because nobody was sitting in the seat. They have a weight sensor on the seat that protects young children from being killed by the passenger side airbag. You have to weigh over a certain weight to engage it.
I'll tell ya', that cab looks remarkable for a impact of that magnitude. Looks like an excellent design.
What model is that? Curious what kind of crash rating is has.

Re: Thank you Farmers Insurance...
It is a 2006 kia sportage lx 2wd, The cab is in very good shape I have other picks where the floor under the drivers seat came in alot and the dash is broken in several places, also the drivers seat buckled alot? not sure about that. The crash test rating for a 40mph offset impact is good for most things but the knees I can speak on that as both of my knees took a beating bolth have large gashes and my ankles are both sprained. As far as surgery they think I may have a hernia on the left side or tore something loose the ultrasound will tell more. thank god for the seat belt even though it has done some damage to me its better than going through the window and meeting mister tree head on.
