seasport v.s. osprey
I friend of mine is looking for a new boat.He has narrowed it down to three boats a 22' seasport a 24' osprey or a 26' seaswirl stripper hardtop. All three are with in $10000 of each other. The seaswirl in the cheapest then the Seasport and last is the Osprey. All three are used and are set up about the same. What do you guys think of these three boats?

Re: seasport v.s. osprey
..wow, now there is a tough choice....qty vs quality..maybe..depends on when the Osprey was built and who rigged it, ditto for the others but maybe to a lesser extent. for the extra two feet, I would probably opt for the osprey but only with O/B power and only a BIG 4-stroke, those are my personal preferences. Unlikely to see a 22' seasport with a Diesel I/O in a Duo.
more data might help....???????

While I have none of the three, I know lots of people that have these. If your friend (laugh - I have a friend that has a boat problem) is looking to cross a restricted bar then the 26' is his best bet. But judging from the comments from the folks I know, the seasport has had many more positive comments and much less problems than the other two. A 22' boat, however, may restrict your access to the ocean. Again, these are my comments based upon the folks I know. If you like, I can get into specific issues with each of these boats, but I'm sure owners if these boats would be better sources of information.

My vote is he waits for a 24' Seasport with twin outboards.I do not want to put down anyones boat either. If you pm me I will give you my thoughts on each.

Love those boats. Huge fishboxes, big area under deck to work on bilge pumps etc. The charter cabin they had at the boat show really knocked the price down with the spartan interior. $63k with a single Yamaha 225. Sorry to sidetrack

Seasport Gets my vote. A couple more feet dont mean much after about 22 feet. If its restricted to within 2 feet of your length you probably dont want to be there anyway.

Re: seasport v.s. osprey
i tend to think like dean on this one. 26 would be the best for off shore running.
but here are my thoughts on 22 and 24 seasport as i have had one of each.
first make sure that the beam is the same 8' 5" on both boats. some of the older ones were 8' and this made them very rocky for sure. the 22 is very small for 3 big guys so if your all small in stature then the 22 will work fine.
i have a 24 explore right now and have enjoyed many things about it. These are some of the best features:
1- enclosed cabin, when the weather sucks you can make the run in your short sleeves with the cabin heat on while everyone else is running in their rubber coats.
2-for boats they can do "ok" on fuel. best run for me was 2.5 per mile with twin 60's my range is way further than i really like to run.
3-plenty of fish storage
4-plenty of fish storage
5-marine head- not a bucket
6-plenty of fish storage
7-rides real nice in all seas
8-Best re-sale in the NW by far due to the factory increasing the base price by 10-15K per year.
Worst part about the seasort
1-the cabin, cuts down the fishing space to just the rear
2-engine hump can give you a lump on the head if you fall backwards
3-Cost of the boat - worth it due to reasale but expensive for sure.
if there were twin out-board models on the market when i was looking for a boat i would have picked one up for sure.
those have TONS OF FISH SPACE ALMOST TOO MUCH

Re: seasport v.s. osprey
Bigger is always better for the pond. Puffins right if the call by CG on a bar is within a coulpe of feet of the legenth you don't want to be there. It would depend on what each boat was powered with. When I moved up in boat size I blew it and went too big. Now I have a new problem were to moor it. 30' with a 11'2" beam is only a problem if you don't own the marina. And I was going to go bigger and still might, 36/38. Seasport is a very nice ride. The others don't sound bad either. You might want to look in Florida. That is where Flying Fish & Reel Loco came from. we boght them there and had them both shipped. Your boat DOLLARS go alot bigger boat for alot less money down there, and even with the price of shipping you still will win.
