Default East Wind?

I have often heard the myth that when the East wind is blowing, fish stop biting.

Is there any real truth to this, and if so, any guesses as to what the root cause is? I'm not a Meteorologist, but wonder if it has something to do with barometric pressure, or a tendency for a stronger wind, which often wrecks havoc with us fisherman.

Any thoughts on this?

It sure was blowing on my way in to Portland today.
As I passed the G Shop, I thought, "I feel sorry for the fishermen!" And there were about 7 trailers at Sollie.

Fish bite the least when the winds from the east !!! and besides that its to darn COLD !!!!,I don't care if its raining or snowing or sleeting or just plain cold,I'll still fish but when the east wind is blowing it TOO COLD and its really hard to detect a bite cus it blows too HARD and GUSTY !! WAHHHHH!!!!,I want to fish :depressed: the river is dropping like a rock right now. We're supposed to get some more rain tomorrow maybe the wind will die down and the river will come up some and LOTS of new fish will come in.

As noted.."When the beast from the East blow the fish bite the least."...The upper river "Sandy" from Oxbow down to Stark Street is some what protected...but..try keeping your driftboat tracking in those lower river gusts...Heck even in my sled I have a heck of a time tracking...The real test is of how cold it is with the wind chill..lick the side of your gunnel...if your touge sticks...then ya know its time to go home...But with that...if you need that extra range in casting..be sure to have the wind to your back...you will cast like a pro everytime...

I don't mind rain, and I don't mind cold....I don't even mind fishing under both conditions. But bring it all together...the wind, rain and cold weather and I get irritable.

I'm also hoping that this wind will die down.

I'll make sure that I only lick the side of gunnel while the boat is on the trailer. It would be quite a site to see someone try to navigate their sled back to the dock with their head stuck to the side of the boat.
