2 More Turkeys Down (OPINION NEEDED) Double Beard????
Robert and I hunted Thursday, Fri, Sat, and Sun this week. On Saturday, we helped another gentleman as he assisted a boy on a mentorship, and then it was our turn to fill our tags.
It was around noon and getting hot, so Robert put his hand out the blind to raise the shoot through netting,so we could open the window for air when I hear putt, putt, putt, so I told Robert to hold still and he did.
I spotted a jake walking past the blind on his side and I was reaching to hand the gun to Robert when another 7 jakes closed in quick to about 6 yards of the decoy. I wasn't expecting them so quick and they caught my movement and walked out to about 35 yards, which is out of shotgun range for Robert, so I whacked one with my bow.
The group of jakes were looking at each other like Dude, what was that that hit dude over there, and they were like dude, I don't know what hit dude but we need to move. I'm following you dude, no I'm following you dude, okay dude this way, and they looped to the other side of our blind and started eye balling our decoy again.
They were like dude, this ain't so bad dude, theirs a good looking chick over there dude, she's mine dude, no dude she's mine, and they closed to within 22 yards and Robert let one have it with his 20 gauge with Federal #5 turkey loads for the daily double. That was my third and final with a bow for the spring season.
It looks like Robert's has a double beard, but I need opinions please. The tuft of skin that holds the beard is bigger on the one that looks like a double than the one that is obviously a single. There is a picture that shows it naturally splayed and one that I spread it apart. The single is from my bird for reference.

Yes, that is what I was asking. We are in a friendly competition and I can measure both beards, but I wanted to make absoloutely sure it was a double. I thought it was because the white stuff that wraps around the beard is wrapped on both beards and the tuft of skin is bigger than a regular beard.
Robert will be please to know this is a double. I'll tell him before he gets off to school in the morning.

Tell him congrats. He is becoming a turkey killing machine.
Multiple beards are neat. I have been lucky enough to kill a few double beards and one bird with 5 beards. One guy I know killed one with 7 beards!. It is all totally lucky and I never even knew they were multi bearded until I started handling them when they were down. The bird in my Avatar is a double bearded bird...he has a thin one right above the main beard.
