Default Drift gear color that's working for you

In the last couple of weeks I've been drift fishing with Cheaters and corkies. Flame has been my best with orenge second runner up.

What has been working for you?

Merry Christmas David and all. I have been using pearl orange corkies with white yarn. I have also been using orange / yellow cheaters. While fishing the other day we got tangled up with a guy on the bank that was doing well with the smallest sized flame cheater, blue bead and white yarn.

I've been having a ball fishing with Glitter pink Corkies with the Chartreuse dots, Size 10-14, depending on water clarity. I have been using yarn with the 12 and 10, pink glo-bug yarn with a chartreuse stripe down the middle. I was using exclusively #1 Mustads, but with the low water, I have backed off to #6 Gammies.

Fished a favorite slot on a coastal stream with fresh eggs for over an hour the other day...not one tap. Put on a #12 pink pearl corky, and landed 2 bright steelhead in about 5 casts. I like pink pearl corkies!

The pink pearl corkie is the #1 selling color, or at least it was back in the erly 90's when I worked at Larry's.

One of my favorites too.

Todays color of choice was hot pink (2 on 2 casts)
then purple metallic spin glow with mylar wing, then chrome #4 Buds. 4 skeins of eggs are curing as we speak.

Drummer; clearer water calls for smaller lures. If the water is gin clear, I go to a naked corkie and fish the riffles. If there is some color to it, I add size and yarn. If it is down to 2 foot or less visibility, scent and yarn. If that doesn't work, or in a larger river, I start using eggs.

Flo. lime green has been working for me. Caught 12 fish the last two trips banking it at Hells Canyon. Can anyone steer me to a site online where I can buy corkies and other terminal tackle in bulk? Local sources don't have the right sizes, colors etc..

Merry Christmas Everyone !!!

David,

The best for me lately has been a creamsicle type corkie ( light orange and white )and orange yarn with scent. One on the Sandy and one on Eagle Creek this morning   12# buck out of Eagle Creek. Both on thevery same rig. It made the whole drift trip Sunday, and was tossed about 15 times this morning before the leader was knicked after getting the fish up to the bank. The only bad thing is it was my very last piece of that color of yarn in a very hard to find color.

Pink has been good too, as we got one on pink pearl and lost one on a pink jig ( we won't say who lost that one ) above Dodge on Saturday.

Supposed to float the Wilson tomorrow, we'll see how the weather is going to be though.

Good luck everyone

Chris

FB, pencil lead and 20# fl. green Berkely Fireline. You can mark up the end with a permanent sharpie marker to be extra sneaky. This set up makes the bite more distinct from the rocks.

David, my favorites are orange or red corkies with orange yarn and white/pink clown corkies with cherise yarn. Borax cured steelhead roe for bait is my standard choice. MMMMMM Eggy goodness.
David, have you ever felt colored roe makes a differnce for steelhead?
