Re: kel tec pistol help
kel tec's are pretty low end semiautos. If you need a small carry pistol get a revolver, those are pretty error proof.

Re: kel tec pistol help
The .32acp kel-tecs are a very good gun for the money lite and easy to carry mine has never givin me any trouble, most of their bigger guns as in 9mm's seem to be crap.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I have shot several and never had a problem. Would I carry one? Nope, I still like my revolver. The 380 would be the way to go if you really were to buy one.
I have a buddy who just bought a Kahr 40 cal that is in the MK series. If you want a small, compact, light semi auto I would seriously consider this. They are a little more spendy new but you are comparing a 380 to a 40. If you want more info on them PM me.
If it were me, I would look for a Ruger SP101 or Smith & Wesson airlight revolver in 357.

Re: kel tec pistol help
For the $ they are more than adequate. I have a 9mm that has never had a misfeed. IMHO they are pretty well made. Not an upper end pistol for sure...but I have no complaints. I just ordered a SUB 2000. From what I've read they get good reviews

Re: kel tec pistol help
I have a kel-tec in a .380 with a lazer for my carry piece. It's not a .45 or .357 but I wouldn't want to be shot by it with golden sabers. It's small and very reliable. I don't care much for the full size ones.
I would agree that a small revolver with crimson trace laser grips are a wonderful weapon for anyone who does not shoot regulary. That is the configuration my wife has . She doesn't have to remember anything but pull the trigger when the red dot is on what she wants to shoot.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I have my choice of carry guns and I choose the KelTek P3AT .380 auto. I figure that the best gun for self defense is the one you have with you. The little .380 kicks pretty hard but you will probably do as I did and shoot a half box to get the feel of it and call it good. This little guy is easy to slip in my front jeans pocket and I just bought a Bianchi pocket hoster for it.
I think the Kel Tek is a fine little gun, highly concealable and so far, reliable. Is it as reliable as a Glock, probably not but who cares. This type of gun is for <20 feet.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I carry a .380 with a pocket clip. It's a nice gun, but you must shoot several magazines through it when its new. Then clean and lube really well.
It light and small enough you forget its there.
Be safe,

you don't even know a gun kicks if shot when in real situation and nobody should be shooting anyone at over 20 ft. in a legal self defense situation

Re: kel tec pistol help
Go over to ktog (Kel Tec Owners Group) forum. They have lots of information on how to improve your Kel Tec, testimonies, reliability ratings, etc.. There is more than enough information on that site to get you pointed in the right direction. They talked me into a P-11 which I liken to a 10-22 . . . a great inexpensive semi-auto to tinker with.
Just so you guys know, on the Kel Tec P-11 there is not too much to learn for operation--no manual safety.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I have a Kel Tec P-11 9MM. I've had it about a year now and have 4 boxes through it, no problems at all. Perfect lightweight compact defense weapon. I also have the Sub 2000 9MM rifle, this thing is a blast for plinking, it's never jammed once. I use the 33 round glock clips in it. Happy shopping.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I would love one of these on my P-3AT but man they are expensive, 209.00.
I like my Kel-Tek bought it for my wife she never really carried it but if she goes on long road trips it goes with her. Its a good gun not a great gun, I too have some accuracy problems with it but havn't spend a lot of rounds through it(my own fault). I think I need a better round for it too, I shoot the Wolf brand and need to research a better bullet for this gun, it tends to fling eye gravel at me. Over all a great carry weapon give it a 7.5 out of a 10.

I sell guns and most compact semi-autos are to hard to rack and have too many things that can go wrong for someone who is new to guns. If she doesn't like that gun she won't carry it. A smith and wesson airweight revolver in 38 special is perfect for most women. My dad carries one as well.

Re: kel tec pistol help
We have Kel Tecs in .32 and .380. Never had a problem, except do not dry-fire them. They are not made for that.

Re: kel tec pistol help
I don't think you are suppose to dry fire any gun. Use a snap cap if you are going to, better yet use the decocker if there is one on the pistol.

Who cares about reliability? I do. That's why my carry guns are a Glock and a S&W Airweight.

Perfect for men too. For a small self-defense gun it's hard to beat a .38 revolver.

Its ok on some guns.
Not a problem with my Springfield XD.40 or any other XD for that matter
Depends on the firing mechanism.
