Default Wind River Springer plugs...

Here is my favorite when they look new.

and what hooked all my Springers when they were biting plugs before we moved to spinners.

FNF - Those look pretty good, but the hooks look awfully bare  don't I remember that you put some color on the hooks ?

Boy, it's time to start the planning already. I can hardly wait. I'm going to have to do some early springer fishing (catching) as I'm headed to East Cape, Mexico the first of May.

I met you last year up at the Wind, and also down at Chinook Wa. in the fall. I'll be in a 18' Grager w/ 50 hp yamaha. Looking foreword to seeing you up at the Wind this spring.

Tight lines to ya.

FNF, I don't want to start anything but ...Those are Real Warts !! My question is??? How effective do you think trolling warts would be ..let's say...below the dam I have always anchored with Kwikfish or Spinners...the flows are higher so no chance of a slack or lighter outgoing tide. And also, Mag or Mid wart??

The reason Mags work so well at the Wind is because of the Depth. Pretty shallow fishery. Below Bonneville, Kwikfish is still the best, I think. We always wrap with Sardine and soak em overnight with Pro-cure sardine oil, Anise,Slammola powder(garlic) and Krill scent. Some of the masters on this board, like Fishin Mission don't even do that, run em naked and catch more than most. Look closely at the three warts. Do you see the glow paint on em? I will try to get a pic of them glowed up in the dark.

You are forgetting one. The lighted green kwickfish. It worked well for us last year real early in the morning and late evening at the wind river.

SSHHH! Don't overlook the Fatfish. The magnums worked great for us on the Wind, and the standard size really can catch summerruns too!

Hey that is good News, I have 8 Solid Florescent Pink That have never been in the water. I might have to get them out for a maiden voyage, Do they work for steelhead? I thought I bought a (lemon) color I never seen anyone use them, I always use the Solid Florescent Red for steelies....Ross

We always thought that the pink was for alternative lifestyle people. I have seen fish caught with pink too. An all red pays off, an all orange pays off. When those suckers are biting, I think they would hit any color. Ya gotta go with what your confident with. When I start at the Wind, good ol Reba will be my girl! Oh yea, I paid $31.50 for an AV66. You will have to pull teeth before I part with one. Just can't find the old storms like that anymore. If you do a rattle test between an old wart and a new Brads you will be able to tell the difference. I like the deeper thunk sound of the old, clear bill, Mag Warts.

Fish Hawg, I have used the AV 95 only for salmon. The V 95 works for steelhead when visability is about a foot.

I was looking in Sportsmans warehouse last weekend and the make a Fat Fish in the same color as the AV66 mag wart. I don't know if the Fat Fish work as well as the wiggle warts but I have heard of guys having pretty good luck with them. I bought a few just in case.

Dampainter,
I need to figure out how to turn the flash off on the digi cam! The picture of the three plugs has em, the others don't. We have a 2 hour delay at the Lazy H Ranch but I will post tonight.

Not real pretty, but I'd still be willing to put this one in the water as-is.

Thanks for reminding me! I was reading this and jumped to a certain auction site. And wow 10 mag warts all with no bids and 5 minutes left.
I managed to get 2. Av 47 and av 68(clown & chart./fl. red/hrngbn)all for 15 bucks after shipping. I'ld imagine that if there was Reba or orange crush, there woulda been a bidd'n war. Huh?

Main line to top quality BB swivel. 5 feet of Yo-zuri Hybrid Flurocarbon leader with a duo-lock snap at the end, is my preference. Everybody has their favorite, that happens to be mine.

OK FNF, as long as were at it; Braid or mono mainline with the plugs and what about drag settings. I saw you wack a few last year at Wind River.

Carpe piscis,
The line that I have used there the last two years was Yo-Zuri hybrid. It is a flurocarbon line. I like to run 15 pound test. My other buddy loves 20 pound Fireline. Drag not too tight. They got to be able to take that first run. I like to be able to pull some off my spool without cutting my hand!

FNF,

Do you buy the Yo-Zuri Floro leader? or do you use the YZ filler spool for both mainline and leader?
