Re: Choke, Choke, Choke
trulock imp mod for up to #2 steel, remington factory mod for up to BB steel, trulock lite mod for BBB, remington imp cyl for T's. .700" is the imp mod trulock - .705" is the remington modified - a full steel is .695" but it will blow patterns on BB's so i never shoot anything larger than #2 steel out of a remington .695" full choke. this is also remingtons recomendation

Re: Choke, Choke, Choke
LJ,
If you bring 'em in close enough, you don't need an aftermarket choke. Either IC or Mod factory choke will do at that range.
But...if you're just looking to dump some more $$ into your gear, as a fellow waterfowler, I completely understand

You really can't go wrong with your factory modified tube. Works well on geese and ducks with #2-4 shot. For larger shot BB's and bigger, I like my Kicks High Flyer modified tube.

Re: Choke, Choke, Choke
What kind of shots are you taking??? Do you hunt mostly over deocys or pass shoot???
I run 3" #1's thru a Briley Light Mod Ext. choke. I use this combo the majority of the time for ducks or geese. I will rarley pass shoot and generaly dont take shots over about 30 yards. For some reason this combo just works out well for me.

Re: Choke, Choke, Choke
A couple of seasons ago I switched over to Carlson "Steel Shot" Extended Tube.
I ususally use the I.C. on Ducks over dekes.
I then switch it out for a Mod. for hunting small race Geese to tighten up my pattern a bit, or perhaps the shots will be just a little further out.
The Carlson's are pretty reasonable at @~$30 and I could notice an improvement over the standard Remchokes I'd been using before.

Re: Choke, Choke, Choke
one other point. if you are shooting heavy payloads of steel, like 1 1/4oz 3" 1 3/8oz or 1 9/16oz 3 1/2" a more open choke like an imp cyl may give you a more even pattern. in pattern testing my 12ga reloads, i get higher pellet count percentage in a 30" circle at 40yds with a modified rem choke with a 1 1/4oz BB load than with a extended trulock imp mod choke. but with a 1 1/4oz load of 1's everything else the same in the reload it is opposite the imp mod has a higher percentage than the mod. in effect larger steel pellets need less choke to gain a better pattern.
