Bi-Mart Ammo
I was told by the Bi-Mart people about 2 months ago that Federal informed them that they will not be shippping to Bi-Mart. Apparently Bi-Mart does not sell enough Federal & there are larger customers. Part of the reason, apparently, is the miltary market for brass and ammo.
I noticed the other day that all the Federal .30-30 is gone. They were down to 2 or 3 boxes a week ago.
CCI & Hornady are also cutting back on sales to Bi-Mart as they are part of the Federal family.
I don't know if any other regional outlets are impacted.
I noticed that prices were upp quite a bit. Bi-Mart seems to have the best prices around. THe selection can be a bit limited.
Any of you work for Bi-Mart & have more info?

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
Does this really make sense? I ask that based on what I realize may not be accurate information so, correct me if I'm wrong. It has been my belief BiMart buys from All Sports and not directly from Federal, CCI, Hornedy, etc. So, if my information happens to be correct, how do these companies tell All Sports not to sell to BiMart? Don

That is exactly what the person working the sporting goods section (for a bunch of years) at the Falk Rd. store in Vancouver told me. Bi-Mart was notified by Federal. I did not see the "notification". I only know what I was told.
Does it make sense? Dunno. Just passing on what I was told.

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
Can't tell you what is going on with Bi-Mart but here's some info that may help:
ATK is the parent company of Federal Cartridge now. Commercial Ammunition is only a small portion of their operation.
If you look further into their Web Site it will be clear they are going to where the money is, The War.
ATK Web Site
ATK Commercial Ammunition Brands:
Black Cloud Ammo
Blazer Ammunition
CCI Ammunition
Estate Cartridge
Federal Premium
Fusion Ammunition
Law Enforcement
Speer Ammo
Speer Bullets
They do not own Hornady, yet.
Here's a list of other companies under their wing now:
Alliant Powder for reloaders and ammunition manufacturers
Champion traps and paper, metal and clay targets
Gunslick and Outers gun care products
Shooters Ridge rests, gear bags and speed loaders
Ram-Line replacement stocks
RCBS reloading equipment
Weaver mounting systems

I understood that and there was no intent to "shoot the messenger." 'Sorry if it seemed that way. I was questioning what the employee told you based on my (admittedly, possibly wrong) information. Don

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
You taking it wrong I love Bimart and am not bashing it. What I heard from a gun shop was that Bimart had sold remington 2nds. I don't know if that is true or not I have bought and will continue to buy a lot of ammo their prices are better than any where else. So my question is has any one else heard that as well? If not it may be sour grapes because they can't sell the ammo at the prices that Bi-mart does. That is all you asked if it was true that the they are no longer going to sell Federal that I have bought from them as well. I bet I am there once week not always buying ammo though...

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
I'm with Don. They dont buy from federal. They dont sell Remington seconds either. Can you even imagine the liability involved with selling seconds. Remington doesn't even sell their seconds. Bi-mart sells cheap because they buy cheap just like wally-world.I have talked to the person that runs the sporting goods department on falk rd and that person is an idiot. So dont believe anything they say. They dont have to know anything about sporting goods but how to sell it.

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
if BIMART stops selling federal ammo i'll guess it is because it is not as profitable as other simular products. lapine bimart is full of steel shot (none federal) but has a very limited supply of pistol and rifle ammo.

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
Don,
I believe it is different than you are thinking but I also may be wrong. You are correct in that Bi-Mart does buy from Allsports out of Clackamas, however, having worked for years in retail sporting goods, most store chains like Bi-mart, Joes, Sportsmans, etc., have a direct relationship in buying directly from a major vendor. Most of these orders are determined once or twice a year and the stock is warehoused and distributed out. Most orders are taken at the SHOT show in Reno or Vegas if I remember correctly. If they run out of stock, they use Allsports to fill in till their next order since Allsports provides access to nearly all products at a marked up price. Smaller stores use Allsports exclusively to fill stock since larger vendors won't sell to them but I wouldn't think that Bi-Mart would be considered a smaller store and would have this direct relationship with Federal until maybe now. Again, I may be wrong but that is how it used to work.

Re: Bi-Mart Ammo
I hadn't thought about it that way, Eric. I'm betting you have it correct, or pretty close - - - which negates my theory. Thanks. Don
