Question 45-70 Reloading...?

Just curious what guns folks have that reload the 45-70 for.........I am thinking about getting a handi-rifle or buffalo classic but I like the look of the lever guns as well. Definitely would be reloading for it and wanted comments on if its difficult or any tips or tricks a person needs to know. Ill be casting my own as well and am currently looking for some good molds. thanks

I have a 12+# '74 Sharps that I only load BP loads for, pushing its 550g cast bullets.

Then, a couple of Springfield Trapdoors, both a Carbine and a Rifle that also get the BP treatment with (the Carbine being loaded w/405g Gov't bullet on top of 55g loads and the Rifle getting 70g of powder and either the 405g or 500g Gov't bullets)

And finally an '86 Winchester lever rifle that I load 405g cast RNFPs out of on top of Smokeless.

BTW, that Crescent Buttplate on the Winchester really JOLTS you when it gets touched off...Ouch!!!

On moulds...

Probably the very BEST .45 & .50 caliber moulds being made today are made by Paul Jones. Google that name and "moulds" and you should find him...$$$$

However you can get very good quality moulds made up for you by NEI Handtools.

Back when Walt was alive and was running his NEI Handtools over in Scappoose, I used to go over and he'd make me moulds while I waited.

Now that he's passed, his daughter runs the company and it's once again located in El Paso, TX.

for what its worth, my friend has a handi rifle in 45-70 and it is one of the most inn=accurate rifles ive ever seen. regularly shoots 3" at 100 yards no matter what diet weve fed it. his marlin lever action on the other hand is very accurate. just some food for thought.
