Bumbletard question
Since my expertise in all matters, such as cloning Armadillos, dog waxing, string theory, removing wine stains and nuclear medicine does not include understanding the complexities of computers, how does one (or two) set up their computer to automatically log on here? I have typed in "remember me", but alas, I must be too ordinary to be remembered.
Thanks for your help in this matter of global importance.

Do you have your browser set to accept cookies from ifish?

I get free cookies for being a member? I am impressed! Ok, I'll quit. Not sure how to make that adjustment. It's not a huge deal, just a little time saver.

I sit corrected, as I "checked" the box, not typed . I took the above suggesion just now, regarding going into Tools and selecting "Use Current", but that failed to do anything. The other sites I visit don't present this problem. Do you suppose Jennie is punishing me for living so close to the Cal/Ore border? : )
Could it be an issue in my settings? Thanks for the help so far. Being at the bottom of the learning curve makes one strong....or at least humble.

Re: Bumbletard question
has your computer logged in automatically in the past and doesnt do it now or have you always had probs. if it did before but doesnt now i would look at any recently installed software. if it never has it sounds like a "cookie" issue which is most likely a setting on your browser. if you are using IE and have Netscape on your machine as well try the other browser to see if it accepts the "remember me"

Re: Bumbletard question
I have not been able to automatically log on since joining iFish. I don't have Netscape. I did recently install some software, but this was long after joining. It's not a big deal, I can alway keep it open during the day, rather than logging off and on, but I would like to learn how to fix, as I'm sure I'll encounter this in the future. Thanks again.

i think that you can go to "tools" then to "internet options" then to "privacy" tab and then you can click the "sites" button and add ifish's website addy there.....its worth a shot anyhow.

Re: Bumbletard question
If you stay logged on until you turn off the computer, then that is indeed a cookie issue.
Do as crazyinoregon posts and see if that works.

Re: Bumbletard question
But, if your firewall isn't set to trust ifish then there is a problem there, too.
So... all in all, you can start at IE, but you have to also look at all other security programs and scanners, also.
It can be a hassle these days to find out what might be happening. I'm sorry!

If you want my opinion, which I'm sure you don't.
It might be easier to just learn how to clone armadillos.

Good question and no, I don't.Could that be the problem? I went to tools, privacy tab and added iFish. I then logged on, logged off and went back on again, but still had to type in username and password. The saga continues......Grrrrrrrr! I'm on a mission.

Re: Bumbletard question
I failed to mention (Bumbletard device still deployed) that everytime I log on, there is a dialog box telling me: "All cookies cleared".

Re: Bumbletard question
Try closing the Ifish site and DO NOT LOG OFF this time. Then restart Ifish and see if you are still logged on when you return.

Re: Bumbletard question
Many people who use VBulletin, the software that I believe iFish uses for this forum, have run into this issue. It may "coincide" with a recent upgrade. But in most cases, it is a "corrupt cookie" issue. You will have to manually "delete" this specific cookie. It may not be getting deleted via the other method.
Try this:
in Internet Explorer: - Tools >
- Options >
- in the "Browser History" section of the "General" Tab, click the "Settings" button >
- A small screen that is titled "Temporary Internet Settings and History files" should open >
- click the "View Files" button >
- A file explorer window should open to your temporary internet files location. Your cookies are stored there as well.
- Sort the list of files by "TYPE", then scroll until you get to the "TEXT Documents"
- Look for a cookie titled/named "cookie:Administrator@ifish.net"
- Right click on the file and select Delete.
- Close the browser
- Open a new browser and goto ifish.net
- login, AND check the "remember me" box
- close the browser WITHOUT logging out
- Open a new browser and goto ifish.net
- you should be logged in still

Re: Bumbletard question
Did you get any "dog wax" on your keyboard?
Has to be an IE issue. hang in there, there is a solution.

Re: Bumbletard question
IE 6 doesn't have any option that I am aware of that deletes cookies on exit. Temp files, yes. Cookies are all a manual delete process or they are set to not accept (tools-internet options-privacy tab-advanced button has some cookie handling rules).
If you have some kind of 3rd party anti-spyware software running, you might check the documentation to see if it's the cause.
Does the dialog box stating that 'All cookies cleared' have any other text anywhere (like the header of the box) that may tell you what program is clearing the cookies?
I haven't played with cookie settings in the Google or Yahoo toolbars, but they may have some feature you have turned on (if you have either installed).
