Where you going for the opener?
Where is everyone going for the trout opener? Choices will be limited in the Cascades. WE are having out of town company, otherwise I would choose Billy Chinook for kokes before they knock the limit from 25 to 5 on May 1st.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
Staying home. After getting snow here in Salem this weekend I am sure I will be doing yard work next weekend. But in two weeks I will be back on the water.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
Klamath is open and ice free right now and has been picking up lately. However, the unsettled weather as of late has made some pretty big water out there.

Im surprised klamath lake is ice free now, my dad drives truck and hauled a load down there about 3 weeks ago and it was froze over. I have alot of family in klamath falls get down there 2-3 times a year but have never fished klamath lake, if i get me a sled next year ill haul it down there and fish it, theres some big lake trout in there.

That's correct, it was. It was slowly thawing along the South and East shores (several hundred yards worth) when a storm came in from the Northwest and pushed the remaining ice raft across the previously open water and broke it up along the shores and the consequent pressure fractured the rest of it into smaller pieces. Combine that with the previous two weeks of unseasonbly warm weather and it all disappered very quickly. We were expecting the derby they had down here to get postponed because of the ice, but the storm and warming trend cleared the way.
I wouldn't bother fishing down here. There are no big trout in Klamath Lake........
You could shoot me a pm if you're going to be in the area, I have a boat and if the timing is right I could probably set something up even if it's only for a few hours.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
I always skip opening weekend and try to get up to the Cascades the following week. With this years snow pack that probably won't happen. Until some of the campgrounds open up it's just too expensive a trip to make for just part of a day's fishing. We're fortunate on having GP close by and that would be the most viable option for now. Although nothing beats camping in the mountains to make a fishing trip really complete with fresh kokes or trout cooked over the campfire.
Reckon that absence does make the heart grow fonder and hoping the best of luck to all of you who brave the elements and get out!

It beats sitting on ones butt watching Tv. I'd rather be outdoors than do that and there are lakes and rivers to fish over there.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
Staying home, accumulating more gear and getting the boat ready. Got extra time to get ready this year with all the snow. I'll be watching the reports, but I bet I won't make it out until the end of May.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
Willy to catch jerry springer.
Snow pack good for water levels...bad for lake access and lake temps.
Just one of those years you'll have to wait....bummer dude.

Re: Where you going for the opener?
Staying Home. Have Family/Wedding commitments until Middle of May. Depending on the Status of what lakes are ice-free, who knows where my next trout expedition will be.
