Converting A Downrigger Mount

Was thinking , I know can be dangerous! Since I won't need my downrigger this season has anyone ever made a mount of sorts to attach to thier cannon swivel mount
to be able to use as a swivel rod holder of sorts. The center bolt hole is 3/8 and threaded would be plenty strong?????

Yes I have and it works great.
I have Scotties. Made the bases out of that plastic marine board. You can slide any attachment in and out as needed.

That plastic marine board is called Starboard (not cheap!) and a cheap cutting board from a kitchen supply place will work just as well.
