F-4
Now that F3 is history and the Wa. fishers out did them Or-e-gun wanta bee fishers, it's time to plan f4 to show them or-e-gun folks it was not an accident.
So, the Wa guys will coordinate this one. Jack,(Thumper) Keith (stlhdr1) and I will set the event for sometime in late March or early April for a springer on the Columbia. The date will be based on tides.
We are thinking of planning it so we can meet for lunch at Sand Island off St Helens. This way people can reach it from the Lewis, Ridgefield, Scappose or St. Helens. It will allow people to fish in several locations (Bachlors island, bouy 72, mouth of Lewis, the channel...etc.
And just so there are no concerns, f4 will be an open event for sportman and women and not be an event sponsored by any bb or group. Your participation will be voluntary. We will fish and meet for lunch to share stories of the day.

Re: F-4
The only reason the Washington guys out did us Oregonian's is that they brought in a ringer that has Lewis river in his blood. I think that he was born on that river and has more river water than blood in his body. Anyway enough whinning. were gonna give you a kicking come March.

Re: F-4
Gizmo - Fishing in the neutral zone doesnt give one team an advantage over the other. F1 was in Washington and the home team won, F2 was in Oregon and the home team won, F3 was in Washington and the home team won. Do you see a pattern there?
I am a bit concerned that the 3 organizers for this event are all from North of the river   You wouldnt know something the rest of us dont, giving Washington an edge?
The crew from south of the big river have a score to settle. The Washington team can prepare to feel like a Husky at a Beaver football game. (What was that score, oh ya 49 to 24  )
You had to go pick an event I have displayed a questionable amount of talent in(or lack there of), do Springers really exist? I'll have the boat out there dragging a herring around.

F-4, I'm in. Nookie Monster are you with me on this? April huh? With 2 months to prefish this should be interesting. RT should have the stink off his boat by then. All that dock space at Sand Island will work great. Bet we'll get a huge turnout on this one. We may have to get Cap'n Dan to cut free some PSOBs (portland yachts)for extra dock space.

I'll be there with a top crew of fishers from OREGON!!!! It stunk that I was not able to attend III due to a prior commitment but this springer season will be a must.
Yes it is neut. ground and may be in a slight favor of the dawgs. We could however say the Willamette instead? Might make things a little more fair for Bait Of Eggs Either place is cool with me

The F-4 location certainly includes the mouth of the Multnomah channel, and that sounds like Oreegun to me.

Re: F-4
Sounds Great,
Make sure that you plan the lunch and date around a flat part of the tide. I would not reccommend that we plan to have a lunch at High tide or an hour after the tide starts going out. I think that a day with a low tide in the late morning would be great. Remember that the tide will run approximatly 2 hours past low tide before it stops. This will allow everybody to get a good oppertunity to tell their daily fish story to each other.
Just my input, also sometimes the sand island dock is completly full with Yahters this time of year on some weekends.

Re: F-4
Cool! An Ifish thingy in my area. This might be a good location to end the apparent "home court" excuses. This area is fished heavily by both north and south folk. Talons, Sand Island dock should be OK this time of the year. Not a lot of R.A.T.S (recreational a$$holes traveling selfishly) this time of year. The Columbia River Yachting Association produces a schedule that lists where and when the different clubs intend to be. Seems like it's available around Boat Show time...but not positive.
Southern latitude folks should start talking to our friends that fish this area and are not Ifishers to enlist them. AAAhhhh...it's a good way to bring more "Brothers and sisters" to Ifish. yeah...that's what I mean.
There is also an opportunity for those who want to fish from the bank to do so on the east side of Sand Island and above Warrior Rock On Sauvie Island. They just need a lift over and back.

Re: F-4
The beach at Bachelor island and at the mouth of the Lewis could be good for bankies too. Both of these spots produce chinook. But I suspect that there will be lots of available space on boats. Any kind of boat will work here, from your basic 12-foot rowboat or driftboat with kicker at the mouth of the Lewis to your 40-footer anchored at any of a dozen places.

Re: F-4
Dogfish,
I am very familiar with the RATS. I also am aware that as soon as spring comes they all come out to use their boat and jam up coon island 3 deep for almost every weekend in spring. I am sure this is the same for the island since I always see lots of boats traveling down river on firday nights past coon island. Just my take on the issue. As far as home cort advantage all I can say is watch out Washington, you are now in my back yard.
I hope this does not jinx me... Ha Ha
Any body interested in bachelor island bank fishing let me know. My freinds and family have built a shack out there for 15 years in a row and we slay the fish at times on the island, mostly summers though.

Gizmo, I would like to be included but may need to ride with someone that knows that part of the river. I simply have not fished the Columbia and would be willing to share some of the expenses. If nothing else, I could take my new to me boat and a couple riders. I am sure Rags will also want to go and we could use his or my boat. Maybe we could get No Pilgrim out for this one too. Rags, I am sure we will look into this one.

Lets see... I was born in Ilwaco and spent my first 11 years there. Paternal great grandparents homesteaded in Gresham, maternal great granparents homesteaded in Winnachee(sp?). I've lived in Portland/Gresham 37 years. Am I a Washigonian, Oreingtonian or something in between? Either way I want to participate in this F4 event.I guess I'll find a place to fit my sled in.Hogtide, that playbook sounds like a good idea. I'll bet you've practiced afew already. Go Ducks. Oops,I might have discovered my true colors.

Re: F-4
Snapshot: I am sure that if you post it, they will come to help you fill up the boat. Also, by the time the event is held you should be able to pre fish it a few times to see where and how it is done. Many will start fishing about the 2nd week of Feb and by the 2nd week of March, things will be if full swing.

Do you guys still have to release the springers with the extra fin? I couldn't handle that. Why doesn't everybody descend on the mouth of the Wind River? Boaters and bankers. You can keep any Springer there! Thumper, we will have to pool our resources to put a whipping on the day shifters from that Beaver State. Can I say BEAVER? YUK-YUK-YUK!I never met a Beaver I didn't like. Well once in college, this frat girl......

Re: F-4
Talon,
Your right about the "yachties" packing them in around Coon Island in the spring. We moor year-round at St Helens and we usually have the Sand Island to ourselves that time of year. I think the yachties like the shelter of the channel. Some of those yachties you see heading downstream are probably heading to Martin Slough or Cathlamet.
btw, hope your not confusing dogfishboywith dogfish/boater up north. At least I think they are the same...sorry if I'm wrong.
Giz,
The marina will have the new fuel dock opened by that time. They pushed it out so it'll be lined up with the outer edge of the other moorages. Easier access.
This is going to be fun! I bet we can get Brad to open the fuel dock early and maybe participate in some other way if you want.

Re: F-4
Fishgutz - I believe you only need an oregon license if you fish up the Multnomah Channel. I am sure if I am wrong I will be corrected by somebody. As long as you fish in the Columbia (not mult channel) a Washington lic is fine.
Fishrus - It is open to everybody, even Fishbait

Re: F-4
Regarding the date. It will be the very next day after I catch two so i can tie them up somewhere
There will be several factors that the committee will consider when selecting the date. These include: water color, tides, gillnet season , and any possible closures. As we get closer to the time these factors will be looked at prior to picking a date.
I am glad to see the interest in this event. We will do what we can to have the best flotilla yet.
Keep your positive posts and comments coming. The input is welcome.
Those with negative comments, let us know which flotilla you are planning to do for the group and we will rant on you...

C'mon FM, ...breathe in...breathe out...ya gotta just let go of that hotspot from last year. Besides, I've heard that they are planning to moor a couple of barges below those pilings this spring.
Look at it this way, if ya come down our way, you get to sample the wonderful aroma of a 'different' mill....Boise-Cascade puts out some mighty nice odors!
...and no, that dang lil' cheap blade/ red bead lure will NOT work down this way.
Show up...if the tide is late, I'll buy ya breakfast at Ichabods!

Re: F-4
FM: We can work anything out...I wouldn't worry about it yet as we are 3 months away and we haven't had our planning meeting yet.
I know whatever we post on when, where or how to fish we will get lots of comments telling us we should do or should have done something different.
Lay low and hold back on the concerns until something factual is posted regarding place and time.
Right now we are only letting folks know that we are planning a spring get together for those who want to participate.
Giz...
