Default Maple Firewood?

I have a buddy that has fell a few big Leaf Maples on his place and is looking to get rid of the wood. How is Maple as firewood? Where would you rank it as a hardwood against the others. Oak and Madrone are my favorite hardwoods in Oregon.

For this side of the mountains I think Ash is best. Then maple.
Excellent firewood.Far better than alder.better than fir.

Burns hot,lasts long,less ashes.

I like it. It it is simewhere between oak for long burning and fir for hot fires. Splits easily! LUCK YOU!

Maple is good. Madrone is best. It's got to be very dry though, so save it for next season.

When do you split it? Green or seasoned?

Maple is good wood, don't pass it up. I will second Madrone, then wild cherry, of coarse in my stove I didn't have to split it.
