Looking to get into some sturgeon fishing from the bank and wondering what kind of rods are being used out there. Want to target keeepers but the chance of hooking a oversized is good. thanks for any info .Rps

I would say there between 6 and 8 feet long. They are the short and sturdy ones. A great deal for the rod!!

Can't go wrong with the yellow Ugly Stick Tiger Rods. Get the ones that are rated for up to 60 lb line. They are light enough that it is still fun to catch keepers but with enough backbone to handle the big boys. I landed a 12 foot fish with one of mine a few years ago and have caught several between 6 1/2 and 10 feet and those rods are still going strong.

If you are fishing from the bank you need at least a 12 footer plus depending on where you want to fish from. There are a lot of Ugly sticks being used but you will need to get the 2 piece long bank rod. I think it is 12 or 14 ft long. These will handle both oversize and keepers. The keepers are still a blast to catch on these rods as well. For more money you can get the one piece lamiglass 14.5 footer but these are nearly twice the price at around $200. Either one of these rods will last a long time if you take care of them. I have seen a tremendous amount of keeper sturgeon caught in the Columbia and Willamette this year from the bank. This should be a great year to fish from the bank with all the high water. My buddy caught 4 keepers out of 3 trips to Kelly Point area in October-November. Dont overlook the mighty Willamette either. Suprisingly a lot of bank spots around if you watch where the locals go.

Fish on
