Extending bear season
Does anyone know if ODFW has considered extending spring bear season in northeast Oregon since there is so much snow?

I have not heard any mention of that but it makes sense to me. Lot's of snow in the coast range still too! 2 1/2 feet in one of my favorite bear spots as of today.

Might make sense, probably would never happen.

Re: Extending bear season
With all the snow and no access to the bruins...isn't that incentive to buy a fall tag also?

I doubt anything like this will happen. In my ten years of hunting in Oregon, I can't remember a single time when a season has been extended for any legitimate reason.

Re: Extending bear season
I have been pondering this thought as well, I bet they extend it......

Re: Extending bear season
They did for black tail season in western Oregon. I believe it was two weeks lost and 3 days granted at the end.

Re: Extending bear season
Would be nice if they did??? But at the same time it would kind of tick me off, they never extend archery season when we get locked out of the woods for 2-3 weeks..........

Re: Extending bear season
I seriously doubt they will. I think one of the reasons they close it when they do has to do with the fawn and calf drop. That is typically the last week of May through the 2nd week of June. Which, on the flip side would make sense to try and harvest some predators at that time, but disturbance (in my opinion/understanding) causes nearly as much harm as predators.
When we were flooded out of the Snake River hunt in 96', they didn't extend.
If I recall, many of the large timber companies that own land in Western Oregon want to close their gates (like many are open anyway) and prepare for fire season. NE may not be in the same boat, but I do recall that was one of the reasons a few of the seasons were drawn back to May 31st from June 15th.
Good Luck...you might just get it if we whine enough!

I have left messages at ODFW to ask them about extending the season, but I can't get a call back- I guess I shouldn't be surprised about that.

Re: Extending bear season
IT would be nice if they did because it is going to be tough unless we get some really warm weather.

Re: Extending bear season
It seems like there are a lot of seasons that get ruined by weather. Who here hasn't had a season that went poorly due to weather? I think that is just part of the hunt...
