Clouser Minnows, or you can throw shad darts

on the willamette we anchor out in the boat, and use the heaviest sinking fly line we can on a 6 wt. As for a fly anything small and bright green with a weighted head. get deep and you will get some.

Sinktip with any shad dart. I have caught some at the B.dam but it's hard to cast next to people using gear. They fight like steelhead on a 6wt.

On the Umpqua we use a typical steelhead setup and fish similar waters. Sink tip is optional, but recommended.

The fish are migratory, so it's hot for awhile then cools off until the next run...

I have had luck on any fly that had a chrome body or some kind of bright color. I have fly fished for shad at Willamette falls where there are some slack water areas on the north side of the falls, I believe. If you try there, you wont have to worry about your line sinking in time, and it makes it easier to land fish without the heavy current.

Shad darts, Green Deaths, or Bright Shads on a heavy sink tip work best. Just anything green. Those Shad are a lot of fun on light tackle!
