Question Siuslaw shad?

Anyone know much about fishing the Siuslaw for shad? I'd like to try some of these fish on the fly, and this would be my closest river (tho I've heard a few wander into the Alsea?). I'm wondering if I drift the lower river, and fish the deeper pools, if I'd be doing the right thing...It'd be fun exploring.

I'm guessing the timing would be about the same as the Umpqua.

thanks for any heads-up! and if I go I'll shoot out a report.

I have heard that the hole where triangle enters holds fish. Siuslaw might be ahead of the Umpqua this year. The U with all that cascade snow should run high and cold late, the Siuslaw is a large basin but it is primarily coast range with much less high elevation snow pack, it should therefore come into shape for shad earlier by virtue of the watershed.

I would be interested to hear if you find fish

In theory theory is perfect

Most I have caught have been from Brickerville down. FYI the river is closed to all fishing above tidewater until late May. When it does open it is possible to catch them flyfishing.
