Default Anchor-Rite?

A couple years ago I purchased a set of Anchor-Rites at Willie Boats. They're rubber, and resemble a cross between an oar stop and a set of Oar Rite Stops--only with a much shorter stem section running down the oar (it's about 2"). They're designed to set down into the oar lock whenever you anchor--holding the oar blade at the proper angle to prevent sway. Unlike Oar Rites, they don't set your blade angle while rowing--they are above the locks just like a regular set of oar stops. They're awesome, but now Willie doesn't have them anymore. I've checked everywhere with no luck. Anyone know what I'm talking about, and, more importantly, where I can get another set?

Thanks

I had oar rites on my oars, Just dont put them down as far on the oars. Mine were about an inch from the top of the rope wrap. It worked fine for me. Whenever I dropped the oars they slid dowm in the lock and helped trim out the sway. I've seen those guys going down the river with thier oars locked in place.....Makes me wonder if they should be rowing.

I was going to ask about eliminating sway when anchored in a driftboat. Sometimes the boat will whip around back and forth and drag the anchor with every movement. Is there something I should be doing?

Tilla,

There's two things you should probably be doing: first, don't anchor in too fast of water; and, second, trim your oars. The Anchor-Rites took care of the latter. Without them, you want to set your blades perpendicular to the current and parallel to your boat. This will help keep the boat straight and stable when anchored. It won't, however, keep you from whipping on your anchor rope if you anchor in too swift of water--something I see way too many people do.

Thanks for the suggestion Fishing Magician. That's what the guys at Willie Boats said too. I just can't believe the original product is totally unavailable now. It was terrific--much lighter and cheaper than the Oar Rites.

I see guys rowing all the time with Oar Rites too. They're actually designed to be set, I guess. I'm like you, though. Scary.
