Default Sandy update

Just checked the boat ramp at Oxbow. Water chocolate milk color and lapping at the top of the old handicap facility. Didn't look like a lot of debris in the water. Should start dropping with dryer weather and droping freezing level. Fish can be caught in current conditions. Close into bank inside current seams.

Rivers dropping but still in the high 13's. I check the levels through ifish. If the freezing level stays low it may fish Sunday. I won't fish it unless it is in the mid 11's or lower.

Is there a handicap facility at Oxbow? I am always looking for a place to take my wife. She has difficulty walking (requires a cane)and wading is out of the question for her. She has a permanant disabilities permit to fish the handicap areas. The list of handicap facilities on handiangler.com has not been working for a while. This may be an option as N.F. Nehalem is in even worse shape right now.

The handicap facility at Oxbow unfortunately has not been a very good fishing spot for quite a while now as the river has built a big gravel and sand bar below and in front of it pushing the river away from the edge of it. The only time it might fish is in high water. It's really too bad as there needs to be more handicap access on the Sandy.

Brshooter,
The great thing about the handicap facility at Oxbow is that if you have a handicap permit, you can park at the bottom of the hill near the water! AND, it is an easy, even, short walk on sand to the water where you want to fish. I'm sure your wife would have no problems fishing there.
There is room for about three vehicles with handicap permits to park there too. If you have more questions, just email "Wiser?" as he is the park ranger there and can tell you more.....much much more!

one more thing about that area. the shoreline is sandy and mostly flat. i've actually fished with a guy there who took a folding chair out into the water and bobber fished sitting down. he'd get up to cast, then sit back down. he looked awfully comfortable to me.

hey wiser (and anyone else),
i'm looking for some good bobber and jig spots in oxbow park. last weekend i landed a native up at gordon creek, which is my favorite spot. i've also gotten fish down at the flood plain, but it's probably not fishable with the river so high. i don't particularly care for fishing at the boat ramp; since access is so easy, it tends to be very crowded. any other spots you'd recommend in the park?

Just an FYI for anyone interested. The park ranger at oxbow park can be reached through this board as Ranger and at rangers listed email at metro.dst.or.us . He would be happy to answer any questions about the park, angling opportunities in the park and recent success. Telephone 503-663-4708 can also be used. Wiser? does not have a listed email and communicates on this board as a private individual. Wiser? is happy to answer any questions regarding his posts through the use of this board. And yes Bev, Wiser? or Ranger could say much, much, much more about when, where, how and so forth. Couldn't everyone who participates on this board? Just wanted to clear up any potential misunderstandings.

Oh Jim,
Dont get your hackles up....I was not being facetious. I just know that you are helpful and I have no problem with you posting as Ranger or Wiser? or Young Salt, personally or for business. The information I gave was to be used by those who are handicapped or others. I think that as long as you are sharing I could share too.

By the way, the other day when you passed us in the park I was waving my hand up and down signifying for you to slow down. I didnt at that time know it was you driving the truck. The reason I did that was because there was a buck right on the road and a doe just three feet off in the bushes and they were looking to get hit! They had that "deer caught in the headlights" look to them. Was surprised you sped off when you saw it was me. Can we have a truce....for the sake of the deer?

No hackle here.. Just wanted to clearify if someone was looking for an email to get additional information. Truce,if that's what's needed, OK by me. I'd rather prevent trouble rather than cause it or stop it. Thanks for the concern.

Anyone fish the sandy today? I am looking to try Oxbow if the river is fishable.
