So, Clownmouth and I took out the USS Rarin' To Go Saturday to catch some of those elusive springers which are rumored to have made their early arrival.
We get out to the boat, I am 5 minutes late as always, and we hit the river with no excitement. It's been a couple of months since I punched a hole in the water, so my legs were a little off and it was nice to be back on the boat.
Anchored up around St. Helens, below Sand Island, not a single hit. No fish on the fish finder. After a couple of hours messing with gear and waiting for the fish alarm to sound, we decided to move.
Down river we went, to 72 on the diamond, where there were a bunch of guys anchored up enjoying a great day. Light clouds, rain every now and then, but overall a nice day to be on the river.
Anchored up again without considering calling for Coast Guard help on Channel 16. The only reason I mention this is that for us, this is something of a record. Normally we have the anchor rope tangled, or float over the top of it or the ball sinks...but not Saturday.
We are sitting there fishing, with the fish alarm still very silent, when it hits me...
I forgot to bring the 05 tags with me for the boat!!!
Clownmouth and I discuss this issue for a few minutes, I call and try to con the wife into making the 2 hour round trip to bring us the tags (she said no ), so we decided to call it a day.
Didn't see any fish caught. Didn't see any seals. Didn't see anything but a very calm, peaceful day on the river with my pops. Very nice.
We just called it practice for next Saturday and the Saturday after, when we KNOW there will be springers in the Columbia.
One of the benefits of the day was a discussion about how I was going to keep the boat with the new baby on the way. Cooked up a plan and today sold it to the wife. If I sell the boat, I can get a newer, smaller one.
Didn't get a springer...but I think I might be getting a new boat!!!
