Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
The Cowlitz was green but FAST Tuesday, too fast for drift boat; saw six fish caught that day, not my boat tho... I have doubts. Will certainly be cold. I'll be there for the education but I hope everybody's got propane heat, we'll need it.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
The lewis doesn't get really blown out it just gets too high to find good water.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Talon, are you in or out? I did not see you post on the other thread that you were going. Post on the lineup thread if you are going or they might not have room at the restaurant. We are fishing no matter the conditions. The river will be fine.
Thanks,
Troy

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Troy,
I am not familiar with the Lewis River, I do not know where to put in at or take out at. I have a new to me 1986 16' 57" wide Clackacraft that is ready to go but I have only had It for 2 weeks, so I have never used it before. I can't seem to find any takers for going this weekend especially now with the rain. I wish I knew how to attach a picture of the boat to this post.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Can anybody say "Plunktilla". That may be the only way to fish Saturday morning. If the freezing level doesn't drop quickly even the Lewis may be marginal to float and expect fish.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Just checked the water flows: N.F. is now at 10200. The E. Fork went from 1300 yesterday when we floated it to over 4420 cfs as of 9pm today.
For those with db, that flow is quite high. I fished it last Saturday and saw less than 5 boats on the river. We did manage to get one on but lost it.
The best place to fish in high water is right at the cork line at the hatchery from the bank.
Might be wise to consider a Jan f3 if the flow goes any higher.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Spooled and Talons, I drove up today and the river has the usual winter greenish gray haze to it. Yes, it's high but fishable. Rags and I will be there looking for a fish or two, no matter the weather. The Lewis has to be the only place when everything else is blown out.
See you there. The fish are there.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Talons,
If you are in a DB I would put in at the hatchery and take out at the Island ramp. Both are on the north side of the river. Be careful not to miss the Island ramp when your floating down the river. Look for pockets off to the side and fish bright colored plugs. The water is running fast but still had good color today. We will be at the Oak Tree around 7:00am.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Those in sleds will have a big advantage. The river is hard for db to anchor when it's flowing that high. Plenty of fish if you're in a sled, or on the bank. The steelies have been coming in now for quite awhile, last I saw a few summers were still in the mix, very nice fish.
For bait who can beat a fresh shrimp ( Texaco in town has good ones), or a small glob of eggs. Boondogging is very effective here, but again the sleds have the advantage.
One thing I saw in the late summmer/ early fall was a number of db using kickers to go up and down the river in. Especially the first few slots below the put-in and at the golf course. Haven't persoally tried this, just saw some that did.
The last thing to consider if your in a db is the flow makes it a little tougher to get your plugs/divers to work. You will probably really have to dig the oars in. Since you can't really anchor to driftfish or don't have a motor to run back up and re -booondog an area with, you may want to consider two drifts. This can be done, especially with the extra push of the river sending you down.
Good luck,
Chris

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Is the river going to be even worth the trip??? Will it be out of shape or too high? I will be there if somebody will show me where to launch and take out.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Talons (Joe), I have read your posts about being new to driftboating. I would advise against a new rower learning with the flow so high. The Lewis is an easy river during normal flows, but the shear volume of water could cause problems for a begginer. Better safe than sorry.
I may be on the bank Saturday, as my teams boat may not be going now.

Re: IFISH FLOTILLA ??
Fishermans Depot in Woodland has licenses. and you can pick up other gear as well as bait.
Put in at the hatchery. take out at the golf course. short run and can be made multiple times. It will be a quick trip in a DB. If after the first drift you find that it is too quick to fish successfully then trailer that basd boy and bank iit at the hatchery with floats and jigs. I saw a ton of fish come out thursday.
