I like Icom. The M422 is a good buy.

Hi Elim,

I like your new boat. Curious how the modification changed the handling? Have you had it out in the waves yet? I guess without a vhf I hope not.

You are missing a great part of this board - the stuff in the past. You really should work the search option. There are years worth of great posts about all kinds of stuff. Spend an hour reading and you'll be far better for it. Asking for a repeat will only get you a tiny bit of this info.

Here's an example of what I found by searching for "vhf radio":
http://www.ifish.net/board/showthrea...ight=vhf+radio

Only thing I'd add is be sure to get a radio with two way DSC. I think most new people expect this is always the case but the cheaper radios sometime only have inputs and not outputs. Example: icom 402 can only receive lat/lon position input from a chartplotter. An icom M504 for example can also output others positions to your chartplotter. So can the Standard Horizon Quest+ radios that I have. When you think you have the radio you want just look up the manual online and make sure the wiring instructions show a send and receive for DSC. With 2 way DSC you will be able to have buddy positions or distress calls plotted on your chartplotter. For more details on this do a search for DSC or DSC wiring. It has been covered in detail.

John Thanks.I don't know how she runs yet.I have not got the wiring finished.I spoke with Jim Miller (the builder) and he told he he thinks it will run beter. He told me he wanted the cab farther forward when it was built but his buddy that he was building it for did not.

I got my 4210 from them.. Bad news about the 4210 is it doesnt come as a bundle. the 4212 and the 4208 do, its a good value if you want the XM weather. I wish I could have got the 4212, but my console wasnt big enough to accomadate it...

I ordered the 4210, HD radar, standard Horizon VHF and a Digital 529 antenna. Now I just wish the boat Im buying would show up....
