Default Question for experienced spinner users

I change out my hooks on stock lures that I purchase(blue fox, etc.). When I change the treble to a siwash I typically use a piece of tubing that I melt over the eye of the hook and lower end of the lure, so it runs straight with the lure.

My question is do you feel the technique I employ is better then allowing the siwash to dangle?

I fish pochet water and pools.

Thanks to you all with experience!!

For fall fishing I use the hard tubing just like you, so that the spinner runs straight. However my buddy who got me spinner fishing just lets the trebles hang when using spinners for springers or summers. So I don't know what works best . The fish I have hooked either way were pinned pretty good so I guess I'm of no help.

I've been fishing some extremely productive waters on Vancouver Island for the past 10 years. My personal favorite technique is hardware. The only way I've ever fished spinners or spoons up there is with single barbless si-washes " no Tubing " and it works dandy. Thats not to say that tubing wouldn't work but naked, sharp, barbless siwash's put the hurts to em'

A key I have found in spinner building is in teh design and balance of the hook in regards to speed at which u retrieve it.

Testing one... two... three..... IF the hook spin's.. particulatry at a very slow retieve the spinner will gerate adn roate indicating that it doesn't ahve enough "bearing's" and the fish do not like this eratic beahavior of yoru hardware.

To illistrate this just try watshin the retrieve on a spinner with a bent shank.... hook will spin... also if retiiveed to fast.. sae reaction... This is why fishing spinner just of the bottom is so deadly, cause the "turbulence" and "lift" that enhances jet boat performance too also makes spinners so deadly for fishing......

I think if we took a poll of the 7 some odd thousand of Ifishers they would say that a casting spinner "usually" has a loose hook and a spinner used for trolling or anchor fishing is most likely to have a fixed hook. (tubing used)
